I just bought this welder used but less than a year old and after a few short welds it cuts out the wire feed.the fan runs but no weld. Its says that the welder uses .035 flux core wire but .025 was in it when I got it,could this be the trouble? The welder isnt hot(air flow is cool)plus its winter here and the air is cold while using it.I know of 2 other welders of the same model and they have no troubles welding for much longer periods and have never cut out.Should I send it in for repairs?

Well there are a couple of things wrong with the set-up even if that wire isn't the entire problem. To my knowledge they don't make a .025 flux so you must have .025 solid on there and you are not going to get any kind of decent results with solid unless you use shielding gas.

The other problem would be the fact that .025 isn't going to feed right through a .030/.035 roller if that's what grove it is running in.

Then of course I always wonder about a welder that has been setting unused for any length of time with wire in it and the liner. Potential for rusty wire and goobered up liner there.

Set it up with .030 or .035 flux, clean the liner, set the tension as per the manual, check the tip size and give it another go.

your right about the .025 its .030(my mistake). Its a new tip and the wire is perfectly clean.Tension on the roller seems good and the welds are fine just i cant get a very long time out of it ,and Im not talking steady bead.short 1 inch beads and after about 20 or so it craps out.I just finished putting a cutting edge on my plow(6'10")doing the 1 inch bead 2 inchs apart and when I get about a foot from the end it quits. The thing isnt hot as the airflow is cool coming from it and the outside temps are like -4C.Its just that my 2 brothers each has the excact welder and theirs never cut out that is why I purchased this model as they had good experiences with theirs but of course I get the bad 1.

etuke, there a possibility youre having an input voltage problem perhaps causing voltage loss? how far of an extension cord and what size?

That was my first thought too but last time there was no extension cord used, unless the voltage is dropping from the outlet that I use.It has tripped the breaker a couple of times(on and off the extension cord). The welder is now at my brothers garage and he is going to try it to see if he has the same trouble(his welder dosent cut out at all)we will see then.I got an email from lincoln say it was me exceeding the duty cycle, they say 2min out of 10 is the duty on it but I have never welded above 20 secs with this, then it would have 20 or more secs to cool before I start again.Maybe if my brother has no trouble with the welder then I will have to try it in a different outlet in the house, voltage drop could be my problem. Thanks for all the replies and if you think you have something to add it will be greatly appreciated I want this fixed or the problem found 1 way or another cause its very annoying to have to wait a min b4 you can weld again(especially in the cold)

well my brother used the welder for the weekend and did much more than I did and didnt have any trouble with it.So I think maybe I have a voltage drop problem.I have installed a new outlet from the panel on a 20amp breaker using #12 wire plus I have a 10' extension cord using #10 wire, now when I try it we will see if thats the trouble, well post back.

sorry etuke for not responding sooner, but yeah sounds to me like there is a wiring problem with that particular line. I dont know a lot about electricity. I have family that are electricians so I leave these thigns to them. But aside from hiring an electrican, you might first consider checking the voltage at the line. Then call the power company and ask them what line voltage you should be getting. It needs to be minijum 115 volts. IF its not they need to come out and fix it. I dont know what other considerations an electrican would give to this. awright seems very knowledgable about electrical issues. Might PM him asking for further info if this doesnt get you desired results as always, good luck

the plug I was using is just the plug in the hallway and I dunno how far the wire runs from the panel plus its only #14 wire and there's other things on the circuit all ran on a 15 amp breaker.I havent had a chance to try it yet but I got my fingers crossed.
