Needs advice from the pros

hey i have been welding for the last 3 years and i have not been making the money a welder could be. for instance i am making a whopping $9.50/ per hour at a massive 40 hours a week. yes heartbreaking aint it. I have just recently learned that there are ways to get into jobs that make alot more. i dont have the money to get my own rig right now but eventually that is the way i want to go. i have done some research and found that a person like me can become an assitant to a welder. how does one go about doing that and is there anyone in or around the oklahoma city or stillwater, oklahoma area that would be interested in taking on an assistant? i ask for all and any advice that could help. oh i also take sympathy as well. lol

Hi Ya movieman3481 and Welcome to the Welding Web Family. With your nick you sound like you maybe into movie prop making? If you post your location you may find someone looking for an assistant. You may also wander into our Links to How-To, Job Opportunities, Education and other resources to see whats available.

If you want to post your location, show your personal avatar, or have a signature on each post telling fellow members where you are located; an avatar of you or your shop, and a signature telling fellow members what types of equipment you have, you can do it all by following these steps:

1. Locate and click on USER CP

2. Under YOUR CONTROL PANEL, YOUR PROFILE, click on EDIT YOUR DETAILS

3. In the EDIT YOUR DETAILS, you can enter Optional Information and Additional Information such as your Location (an other info)

4. While in USER CP you can explore some of the other functions

- Avatar: you can have picture of you, your shop, your wife, children, dog, etc (keep it clean- no nudes)

- Signature: you can list all your equipment, a link to your shop, or maybe some witty saying

Do you know how to stick weld? Have you checked into the oil industry in your area? The company I work for has their main office in OK and they are a contractor to the oil industry. If you can stick weld good enough to pass xray or bend test and are willing to travel you can double or maybe even triple the money you can make in a year.

Thanks for the information guys. I am willing to travel. Jay O does your company require you to have your own rig and set up? Currently my equipment is my hood, leathers, gloves and desire to get out of my current job ASAP.
