6010 vs. 6011 vs. 6013????
I've always used a 6010 for root passes and in situations needing deep initial penetration or when faced with dirty, rusty, contaminated base metal,etc...I read posts by people talking about 6011 and 6013 rods. What is the difference. is one more beneficial in certain conditions?

Havent used 6011 yet, hear its similar to 6010, whipping rod.
6013 has a medium slag that curls up, has minimal penetration and looks good. Im told its a repair rod designed for sheet-metal, which would explain the total lack of penetration.

I have never used 6010, always 6011 on rusted backhoe buckets ect. Haved used 6013 in the past on wrought iron railing ect. but now only use 7014 all around better in my opinion for my wrought iron projects. Still stick with 6011 and 7018 where strength is needed, Waiting for the oil in the Fl Keys.

Main difference between 6010 and 6011 is 6011 can be run on AC where 6010 is a DC rod. Both run the same to me as far as rod manipulation, puddle, bead and slag characteristics but 6011 seems to go down a little smoother for me on DC+.
6013 is low penetration rod and can be run DC+/-. It penetrates less in the DC-. It's good for sheetmetal, usually available locally in 1/16" dia where most other rods are not. No whipping needed. It is more spattery than other rods though.

The 6011 is very similar to the 6010 with the exception of inclusion of arc stabilizers in the rod. It does flow smoother than the 6010, and may have slightly, slightly less penetration. Both are cellulose based fluxes but the 6011 can be run any polarity and on AC. I know some guys use a 6011 when a 6010 is usually called for, even though they probably shouldn't. If you would look at the weld, both look very similar.

As was already stated, 6010 is DC only, 6011 can be ran on AC or DC. Both are whip or long arc rods with deep penetration and very little slag.
6013 is a very different bird. It is a drag rod (short arc) with heavy slag compared to 6010/6011. Much less penetration with 6013. 6013 has fest freeze characteristics like 6010 and 6011. 6010 is the code rod for root passes on carbon steel pipe and pressure pipe.
