Re: Where to buy steel

You can look under metal recyclers or steel supplier in the phone book. Also it's not a bad idea for hobbiests to learn where local welders are located. Often you can pick up shorts and scrap from them as well as machine shops and so on. Also keep your eyes open for other opertunities. Old store displays, racks, as well as shipping packages and so on can be a good source for tube and angle iron. I've also picked up drops from construction site dumpsters in some cases. I picked up some nice SS round stock that had been old boat drive shafts at a boat yard one time cheap.

I've also got a good old time hardware store that stocks steel, alum and some SS near me. Often you find places like this in rural areas like at farm supply stores and such.

Don't go to Lowes.

Are you in Ohio or Michigan? The zip code is Ohio.
