Nipple Repairs

NOT THAT NIPPLE! I had a small job that I actually had time to take pictures this late morning. Old valves, old pipes. They tried to replace the valves with new ones and turned the nipples right off the SCH 40 pipe. I had 1 outside and 1 overhead inside, It was only a 2 hr job.

They didnt even try to take the second one off. I hit it with a hammer and it came right off. The entire system is OLD!

Yea, I was in virginia beach buying a suitcase welder at 6 am (80 F), got back to richmond at 8 am (90 F) When I left the weather said it was 104F. But it is summer and july so I wont complain. If you want to get anything done get your hours in early!

Re: Nipple Repairs

BUSY! The shop is bringing in a lot of business. For what I payed for it, it will pay for itself by winter. Plus it came with tons of cool stuff! We are getting ready to start a huge container repair contract(80,000). Had to go get a huge insurance policy to tickle them I guess. For the most part I think the shop was a great investment. Although I still have a ton of work to do there and $$ to sink in it. It works... http://weldingweb.com/showthread.php...=Shop+pictures

Thanks,
Josh

Re: Nipple Repairs

An easy easy-out: Aquire (thats such a usefull word) an estwing steel handle geologist pick. On the pick end, hit it with a grinder until the four corners are sharp. If you want to be fancy, gind some lenghtwise grooves like square easy-outs have.Anneal the hammer end.
Next bad nipple you find just drive the pick into it and pull sideways on the handle.
It works every time except when you REALLY need it to.Murphys Law.

No its all good. Yea i remember race in. I actually knew holly (old manager) for awhile. Thats also where I use to get diesel. It was cheaper there than cockrhams. Sounds like they might be catching up with the times.
