TIG and MIG welder in 1 machine
Does anyone use a welder that does MIG and TIG welding? What brand is it and do you like it?

Re: TIG and MIG welder in 1 machine
Mig and tig? Miller's XMT is probably one of the best on the market with the right accesories. Not exactly your average hobby machine however, but used you can get set up for a bit more than the average upper end 200 class or 250 amp class mig would go for new.
The only down side is it's DC only tig, so no alum. Miler had some older multi purpose machines also that I understand were quite good.

Re: TIG and MIG welder in 1 machine
Lincoln has their Idealarcs that do the hi-frequency Tig, their Invertec machines or my favorite the PowerMig 350MP. They are all DC though.

Re: TIG and MIG welder in 1 machine
My XMT 304 CC/CV does mig/flux, stick and dc tig. It's a very nice machine that weld well in all modes.

Re: TIG and MIG welder in 1 machine
Are you referring to DC only or AC /DC when you say TIG? I ask because many beginners (I apologize if that's an incorrect assumption) associate TIG with aluminum capabilities (which is not necessarily correct). That said, I haven't found a multiprocess machine that does AC / DC TIG, plus MIG. Many multiprocess machines do have DC TIG capabilities, along with stick, and MIG if you add a wire feeder. The XMT 350 is one of them. Along with a suitcase wirefeeder and spoolgun (for aluminum MIG) it is a versatile setup of industrial quality and performance.

Re: TIG and MIG welder in 1 machine
The only shop machine I know of that does ac/dc/cc/cv is the Miller Shopmaster, which is no longer made with ac/dc output. They still make the Shopmaster, but it's dc-only. Other than that, there are a few engine drives that put out ac/dc/cc/cv but a portable ac/dc inverter tig is much better for welding aluminum than tiging off an ac/dc engine drive with an hf box and only very basic tig functions.
For a shop-only setup that would do most everything and on a budget, I would choose a Syncrowave 250 ac/dc/hf tig/stick and a Millermatic 252 mig. For small portable go-anywhere inverters to do all processes anywhere, I would choose a Dynasty 200 and a Millermatic Passport.
