Trouble with Pictures

Hi, I'm having a bit of trouble getting my pictures to display.

Under the Lincoln Forum and the Thread called Carbon Arc Torch, I tried posting (#18) two pictures - following some guidance I found on another Thread about Pictures in this Forum on Support and Suggestions.

What I end up with in my posting, is:
- two pictures that display correctly (if I logged in) within the body of the text, and
- a listing of my two picture files as attachments at the bottom of my posting. I can choose either picture file attachment, open and view it.

Now, if I don't log in and look at the same posting - things are different.
- Firstly, the two pictures within the text do not display at all - one sees only a small box with a red X inside and a large void where the picture should display.
- Secondly, while a listing of my two picture files as attachments is shown at the bottom of my posting, I cannot open or view either of them.

This is all very confusing to me... because in the same thread, whether logged in or not, I can view two pictures in mattc's previous posting (#11) - that showns no listing of attachments at the bottom of his post.

How come mattc's pictures display properly (and with no attachment listing) whether I am logged in or not and my only pictures display if I am logged in?

What's happening? Am I doing something wrong?

Rick V

I think it's because both of your picture files are located on the weldingweb server. The ones that mattc links to are in photobucket, another server with no login restrictions. Both of your links (in the text and at the bottom are controlled by a password). I am not sure, but that's my guess.

Hi Rick V,

Are you still having trouble viewing the pictures when you log out? When you log out, check your User CP settings. Go to:

User CP -> Edit Options -> Thread Display Options -> Visible Post Elements

Show Signatures
Show Avatars
Show Images

Make sure each of these items are checked. If that still doesn't work, please let me know.

Thank you,
Dana Beaumont

Dear Dana Beaumont:

OK, I did as you directed; I went to:
User CP -> Edit Options -> Thread Display Options -> Visible Post Elements
All three elements were checked:
Show Signatures
Show Avatars
Show Images (including attached images and images in [IMG] code)

I did not change anything.

When I signed in and looked the pictures were displayed - as before.
When I signed out and looked again, the pictures were actually displayed - this was not the case before and the cause of my query.

It looks like it might be fixed - but since I changed nothing I wonder ???
I will check it again later today after a real disconnect.

Thanks for the help,
Rick V

Rick,

Looks like a good possibility that -- using the technical terminology -- it's "one of those things."

Let us know if the problem reoccurs.

Bob,

Ok, I checked my post just now (night time) without signing in - and the picture images are displayed. Like you say - maybe it's just one of those things. It displays fine now.

Thank you Bob and Dana !
