Looking to become a master fabricator

Hello everyone. My name is Travis and Im siked to be a part of a forum where a good portion of my interests lie. Im looking to get into custom car/hot rod fabrication full time and am pushing hard to become a master metal worker.

I recently just bought the Hobart 140 mig welder. Its my first welder and am learning as much as i can. Im only doing flux core right now for cost reason but would like to get into argon gas and whatever I can do to make great welds and have all my visions come to life.

Look forward to foruming it up with you guys in the near future.

thanks.

hey Travis
Welcome here, same advice as from the other board, if you can get in local community college welding class best money you will spend, lets you learn different processes on good equipment with their metal , gas , rods makes learning a lot quicker but only experience gets you where you want to go, Mark

Re: Looking to become a master fabricator

Hi Ya Travisty and Welcome to the Welding Web Family. If you plan to become a Master Fabricator of Custom Cars & Rods your going to have to consider getting some training at a welding school. While at the school as the instructor if he owns a welding shop and would be able to take you on as a welding helper or even apprentice!!! That would get you some additional training as well as some real world shop experience. That instructor and his shop may also give you some connections to a Custom Car & Street Rod shop that would be willing to take you on after your school training and graduation.
Appenticeship in the Custom Car/Rod shop would give you that employment as well as get you trained by an actual fabricator in the various equipment & skills you need to get you on the way to becoming a Master Fabricator of Custom Cars & Street Rods.

You may also want to post your location so Welding Web members in your area can recommend a good welding school and maybe connect you with a local customcar/rod fabricator in your local area.

If you want to post your location, show your personal avatar, or have a signature on each post telling fellow members where you are located; an avatar of you or your shop, and a signature telling fellow members what types of equipment you have, you can do it all by following these steps:

1. Locate and click on USER CP

2. Under YOUR CONTROL PANEL, YOUR PROFILE, click on EDIT YOUR DETAILS

3. In the EDIT YOUR DETAILS, you can enter Optional Information and Additional Information such as your Location (an other info)

4. While in USER CP you can explore some of the other functions

- Avatar: you can have picture of you, your shop, your wife, children, dog, etc (keep it clean- no nudes)

- Signature: you can list all your equipment, a link to your shop, or maybe some witty saying

Re: Looking to become a master fabricator

Their site looks good. But forget signing up for online video training unless you already have some welding & fabrication experience under your belt the videos won't help much. I see that they do offer on site training with actual hands on training in fabrication. From what I can see even that hands on training assumes that you already have some welding experience. Travisty say the Hobart 140 was his first welder. I recommend he go the welding school first to learn the basics, get a bit of fabrication experience then consider such speciality training as Lazze Metal Shaping if offering.

Just my two cents worth
