Finally the balcony project has begun

This has been a real PITA project even before I got started. I finally got the scrolls made thanks to a tip from Harv. I found the blacksmith he told about and I got 26 scrolls at 15 bucks each. Here is the 1st pick...

How do you get the mill scale out of the inside of the scrolls?

Yeah thats the one. The guy usually puts the parts in an old cement mixer with some blasting sand. Since these parts are too big he didn't. So I got a thing thats a cross between a barrel sander bit and a flap wheel. I'm sure there is a name for it but anyway I clamped a drill motor to the table and the held the parts to it. It worked okay. I started to sand blast them but I changed my mind.

I tell you what although I enjoyed watching this guy work. King metal is like right around the corner. I just as soon go there and buy the fab'd stuff for half the price. So from now on if someone wants scrolls the can either pick them from the catalog or pay dearly for them. I'm not going to make much off this balcony. I didn't price it right but there is 400' of 6' ornamental fence that's mine to loose.
So lesson learned and I always keep my word.

I'll be finished with it tomorrow. Its really easy to build and I know my radius is right on so it will go in place easily.

Oh okay, I forgot about those. I've got a couple about three inches in diameter out in the shop. I bought a couple of one inch ones ahwile back. They cost as much as the bigger ones. Do a heck of a job though. I put them in the angle die grinder. When I remember I've got 'em that is.!!

You're doing good work and holding true to your word. That ALWAYS pays off in the long run. Peace of mind if nothing else.

Looks good. Keeping your word will reward you many times over.

I usually dip stuff like that in muratic acid. 1part acid to 10parts water. Let it sit for 2-3 hours then wash it off. Scale wipes right off. Rust comes immediately, so protect it.

I'm considering doing that today before I go any further.
Like I said the flap disk only did okay.

okay this one is done except for some 4" legs. I'm going to think on it some first. I know I'll anchor the end into the stone wall. I left them long so I can cut to fit. the legs though will be either one in the center or two left and right of center.

Not today though. I had enough and enough is too much.
