Zombie Smasher Version 1.0

Well, spent the last few days finishing this up. Actually started it a few weeks back, but building a new wellhouse before the freeze delayed it's eventual completion.

First had to mill out the webbing on a piece of 1.5"x6"x3/16" c-channel to get it to fit over the frame rails:



Then I drilled the mounting holes to connect it to the frame rails and winch mounts and milled out the opening for the roller fairlead and mounted the center section up:





After it was mounted up, I was able to figure out the locations for the shackle mounts I made to connect to it. Instead of disassembling it, I just drilled the holes using my Jancy Slugger:









After that, I mounted up the shackle mounts to make sure everything fit properly:

If negotiations work out, ill need a good front winch set up - something like that would be just about right (just have to go bigger)

Add a shorthood, a ma deuce, fuzzy dice and, a bbq pit to it and I think it should be able to handle anything.

Then I cut the left side of the bumper...wouldn't fit in my bandsaw, so I had to cut it with my angle grinder and cut-off wheels. I welded it in place on the truck (120amp 1/8" E6010 on my Miller Trailblazer 302) so that I could figure out the end point easily and so that I new everything was lining up properly:







Last things to do were to cut and weld on the drivers side of the bumper, and then cut the ends. Got both of those done and everything re-assembled and here it is:









Hope you all like it . After this, all I have to do is to cap off the ends of the bumper, clean all the mill-scale off and take it down for a nice satin black powdercoat.

Nice...I'm trying to decide between a Bobbed Deuce or a LandRover Lightweight for my next military vehicle.

Remember that those deuce winches are not only expensive, but also a pain in the *** to move around or ship. They weigh a ton. Good luck on the negiotiations, let me know if you get it

I wouldn't go GI, probably just a PAIR of the biggest Warns I could stuff under it.
Add a pair of Jib cranes to the back, then make a fortune off the kids out at the lake when they get their 'hot' 4x4's stuck to the rockers.
Also be handy for those, 2nd gate on the right and about 2 miles due south across the pasture. D8, stuck in the mud and we need you to weld a new tow hook on it jobs.

looks great. it wouldn't be a bad idea to add a smaller tubular support inside from the 2 side extensions to the frame rails. there kind of long & I could see a mishap folding one in enough to contact the tire. triangulating it would make it much stronger

I was thinking the exact same thing.

The title really caught my eye

The last two guys are completely right. If you hit a zombie you may bend that channel into the tire and then your stuck changing a tire and pulling that bumper out while fighting the undead.

Also I would recommended using 7018 for any zombie critical welds as it just holds much better.

Yup, I had already planned to run supports across to the frame to keep the ends from bending in if anything hit me or I hit anything. Just going to bolt them in place instead of welding them so that it's still relatively uncomplicated to remove the bumper. My wife actually brought up the same point as well

I would also suggest skinning the top with 12 ga metal for looks and then also plating the bottom of the bumper under the winch for strength. if not, you may end up pulling a bow in your bumper if the pull on the cable is too much. a 1/4 inch plate is plenty. you can run it just between the rails and extend it back about 6 inches and you will never bow it.

I agree with the trianglation. skinning the top will also help with any twists and buckles too.

You should probably put expanded metal on the windows. It will make cleaning them a pain but otherwise zombies can smash your windows and eat you. Also when you hit them, their bodies could bust your window. I don't know about you but I wouldn't be courteous enough to stop while they cross the street.

Got the bumper ready for finishing and it's off to the powdercoater. I get it back tomorrow at around midday. I also finished up the grill for the truck. Everything shown here in bare metal (damn it was alot of grinding). This weekend I'll have pictures of it fully finished, coated and installed on the truck .

Here's the bumper and grill all complete and installed on the truck. I realized the brush guard didn't fit with the grill installed, so I'll have to extend the upper tabs on that and then it'll go back on as well. Enjoy:

Nice M715, I just sold my 68 last year due to financial reasons. I'll get another one some day. Awesome trucks, I had 38" michelin xl's on mine, stock drive train.
