Nice work Zap. Looks like it was automated. With practice and on a good day I hope my good welds look like what you would call a mistake.. If I mail you a Voo Doo doll would you pass some of that welding "curse" over here?

Re: Horizontal Positioner Welding..

Looks good. How is your Aircrafter holding up? Used mine on small shaft today, really comes in handy. I'm assuming your rollers are iron or steel? When I get a large job I'll need to fab roller setup.

Re: Horizontal Positioner Welding..

It's holding up "OK" at this point Peter..
Set up like it is in the pics I don't like to make it work that way with anything over 100 LBS..
The shaft inside is only what..1/2"?
And the inside bushings along with the worm gear don't like all the weight like that either..

Standing ""UP" I will do around 300LBS...

The roller stands can be made with HI Density rubber wheels and I have made some out of steel so they don't melt with all the heat..

I melted the first set with some 300 Amp welding and it was quite a mess to clean up..

You could also fab up a second set of turning rolls and use your positioner to drive one of the wheels on the turning roll, the weight would be no concern. Torque would still be there but worm drive can take insane amounts of torque.

These will be rubber covered when I get thru with them and after that who knows what they will be doing..

We make rollers for almost every manufacturing process out there..
Printing..
Take Up rollers..
Food..
Material handling..
Asphault shingles..
Lamination..
Cooling drums..

The list goes on and on..

Good Idea but the worm gears are brass and only 1/2" diameter 1/4"Face on a 1/4" shaft..
I already stripped 2 sets and have blanks made up we send out to the gear shop for hobbing..
Pain in the rear to take them out and replace..
