New to This Forum in Northern California

Hello to all.

New to your forum over here in No. Cal. I'm what you might call a dedicated hobby welder. I've been doing this for a long time. I got into welding when I was racing motorcycles. Welding and motorcycles go hand in hand.

I presently do TIG and Stick on a vintage Lincoln 250/250 TIG/STICK unit with a water tank and argon. I also do MIG on a Lincoln 175 plus that I just picked up. I run that on C02 to save money. I also have OA torches and tanks.

About ten years ago, I went to a local Junior college and took a one year general welding course to sharpen up on my skills. I learned TIG and MIG when I was there.

I look forward to reading a lot more about welding techinique and materials on the forum here.

Regards to all!

gnm109

By the Way....under my User ID is says that I'm a "solderer". Is there any way to change that? Thanks.

It's a new naming convention. Keep coming by and posting and soon it will change to the next thing...what ever that is. Right now, management is playing around with the levels that describe the participation on the site. Ain't nothing but a thang. By the way, glad to have you...from another dedicated hobby welder.

Hello.

I'm in South Sacramento County in a place called Wilton. I'm about 12 miles from Elk Grove, CA and 10 miles from the Amador County line.

Thanks to all for the nice welcome. I'm sure I will enjoy it here. I'm on several motorcycle forums but it looks like I will learn more here.

GNM109: Welcome to the neighborhood. Think of the "solderer" thing as our kind of hazing. Just a little fun. When you've made a few posts (it's not too many, but my contract as resident curmudgeon around here prevents me from specifying), it will change automatically.

And be careful what you write. One fellow just warned us all about a certain knees-apart technique not to use when welding at ground level. We've temporarily reassigned him as "Some kind of stick welder." I would imagine "solderer" starts to look pretty good.

Welcome and weld well,

That is funny. Its the kind of dark, morbid humor that is(I feel)most prevalent amongst people like us. I like it.

I have a shop in Oakland where I do most of my welding, so in reality, we're not that far apart. As for how nice it is around my house, I have to say that it keeps me sane. It generally looks like this on most days:
