Stainless Ring Field Job
Last week I got sent out on a field job to weld an extension onto the stainless access hole of a big concrete tank that is under construction.
(Click images for larger view.) Here's the hole with the 1/4" thick SS ring next to it: For the weld prep, the specs called for a 1/8" deep v-groove on the inside of the tube/ring: Root pass was done autogenously (no filler): Hot/fill pass: Cap pass: Specs also called for the weld to be ground flush (I also smoothed it with a flap-disc): Here's my work area right after I finished the welding and grinding: I had to keep everything right up against the wall of the tank, out of the way, because the concrete guys kept driving their man-lift things around the tank prepping the outside for the next coat of concrete.

Re: Stainless Ring Field Job
Looking at what quarter can be seen it looks like that could be a pretty good sized tank if there's any height.
Sweet work.
