HTP Invertig 201

I have a HTP invertig 201, I purchased new a few years back. I love the machine with one exception on dc current I get flashed at the start. I contacted Jeff at HTP America and he told me its hard to sence a low current dc arc. After that I have gotten a Miller elite and a Speedglass 9000X with low amp settings. And still get flashed sometimes when letting off easy and when starting easy. I would like to know if someone else has had this problem with theirs. I have a Arc One in my Huntsman 7llp and I use it on a Miller Syncro 250 that goes down to 3amps and it dosent flash me. It will only work on my HTP for AC only and I get flashed if I try it on DC. I even set the start amps higher up to 20 and it still gives me a little flash . Thanks Jack

Re: HTP Invertig 201

I am sure there are some auto darkening hoods (brands and models) that respond to low amp DC better than others, but I can't really help you there.

However, if your auto-darkening hood has a solar cell on the front to recharge the batteries, leave it out in the sun for a few hours to recharge the batteries; it may help with your autodarkening helmet's performance. A helmet with replaceable batteries might find benefit to having a fresh set of batteries as well.

Another trick you can try to help the performance of an autodarkening helmet is to dial in some pulsing. With pulsing I find my autodarkening helment triggers more reliably, while I can still weld very thin metals with very low average amps and heat input. I will even say that sometimes the *only* reason I have the pulsing feature turned on is to make my autodarkening helmet trigger more reliably.

Re: HTP Invertig 201

You need to try a Miller Digital Elite.

Set it on X-Mode.

Best I've seen for low amp SS work.

The X-Mode does not rely on the light sensors, but rather senses the electrical impulse of the arc.

Re: HTP Invertig 201

I would like to thank everyone who replied to my post. I came up with a solution to the problem. The lights were messing with my hoods ability to darken. I just moved my table around and it works fine now. Thanks Jack.

Yardbird.

Could attach some closeups of your machine. Can't seem to find any on the internet.

Re: HTP Invertig 201

I have a Jackson Boss and have welded down to 5 amps without problem. I have had problems trying to weld in the sun and my hood not working. This happens with any auto hood, if your background light is really bright your hood cant detect the arc properly and it doesnt darken
