Hi there
I'm look for Info about canada fitting and welding trades as i be move there soon
because my (canada) wife has had enough of the earth quakes here in Christchurch ,new zealand and has already moved home to Canada with the kids and almost time for me to move over (had to pack up our lives here first before coming over), O i'm a kiwi.

So about me i'm fitter/welding B been in the trade 23 years i,ve done plate work(press, rolling, forming) site work (plant shutdowns, structural steel) 7 years building alloy boat and the lasts 8 years building truck trailers.
And have had different welding tickets in alloy and steel for last 21 years.

So what i what to know is how my fitter/welding B ticket translates in canada to Journeyman ticket? is it the same. what redseal ? do you need it? what the most common welding standard?.
all my year in the trade must count for some thing .
If some knows how that all works please help me out.

Re: Info about canada fitting and welding trades

I would recommend you check with the Canadian Consulate in New Zealand, ask them about job opportunities here in Canada.

Western Canada is where the oil is (Alberta, and Saskatchewan), there may be a better chance of getting work there, however the weather is very cold in the winter, and living is very expensive.

Like the U.S., manufacturing in Canada has been hit hard, expecially in central Canada (Ontario, where I live), I do see the occasional welding job in the classifieds but the wages are not that great it appears.

There are many people in Canada from New Zealand, actually my Sister-in-law almost married one a few years back.

Regards from Toronto, Ontario, Canada
