MultiPlaz wleder/cutter

Hi Guys

Has anyone used one of these MuliPlaz torches?

It is a light-weight power supply with two small torches - one for cutting and one for welding. You can use water for some welding and otherwise use a water-alcohol (isopropyl, not the other kind) for most operations. They claim a 100% duty cycle and very precise flame control - "like a needle".

Considering that plasma cutting has left the lab and the high-end manufacturing arena and is now available to hobbyists, it is not unreasonable that plasma welding should be available, too. Cell phones and TV wrist watches were the things of comics back in 1940, but a few years later atom bombs were falling.

The MultiPlaz website has no information about warranties and emails to them bounce.

It seems like a cool product if it is actually in production.

Have fun

I haven't used one, and will follow my proven practice of letting many other people buy one first.

Re: MultiPlaz wleder/cutter

Hi all, I'm in OZ and saw the advert on Ebay, so after a hands on demo I bought one and can only say it's an awesome piece of equipment. More details for those that are interested.

But they do have issues that they are working on as far as the torches are concerned the power supply is great

Re: MultiPlaz wleder/cutter

Hi all, a year's gone by since I bought the unit and can say with confidence that anyone who bought one and regrets it can contact me via a PM and I'll make a fair offer for their gear.....had so many inquiries to sell my unit second hand.

As they aren't being sold 2nd hand, anywhere at all, not even on Ebay, the other users must have found another use for them.

The usual bind is the new price, so if there's any 2nd hand outfits out there I'm in the market.

Re: MultiPlaz wleder/cutter

How many professional weldors are making a living using these units?

Where are they used in production welding?

How come with all the publicity none of their fanbois has coughed up some AWS bend test specimens to demonstrate their effectiveness?

Also, read this thread:

Re: MultiPlaz wleder/cutter

It's like we said it has issues and i see no commercial or production use in it's future as it stands

But don't take our word for it call there office and make arraignments to demo the machine
The people there are very nice when we were there they were informative and helpful

i'm not going to run it down because it can do some unique things

It can weld copper as good if not better than a tig
If you can get cast iron rod (not ni rod) real cast iron rod it can weld it together

it can weld aluminum/stainless /steel/etc but not better than a tig or mig or smaw
and this list is long because it is not better than current processes that are used

And having to stop and refill the water tank every few minutes kills it
like a 8% duty cycle would for most anyone who has to get a job done

It's cutting ability is limited to 1/4" steel and most of the currently available small plasma cutters can run circles around it and as with all plasma cutters the thicker the material the slower the cutting speed and then there that having to stop and refill the tank every few minutes

the plasma goes from non transferred to transferred when it gets close to the grounded material
and the heat output really increases at that point and not in a controlled way...it is either one or the other...For you space balls fans it light speed to ludacris speed

like having too big a tip on a welding torch and not being able to tun it down you have to pull away the go back in ..rinse and repeat

In my opinion it's unique and that it can do something real good but not all and it can do welding and cutting but the whole stopping and refilling the tank is it's bad point which we conveyed to them

And at a 2 grand price tag it ain't that great or unique that i would pay that for one
not even half of that

You would be better to buy a good used syncro and a plasma cutter at least you wold get the job done in a shorter amount of time

But the power supply is nice light and compact but the torch needs a real re do it's like welding with my drill / driver very awkward in the hand and then there's that water tank problem

Hooking it up to a metered supply and it would be a contender the tanks not being much bigger than a test tube really screws the pooch

Re: MultiPlaz wleder/cutter

In order not to Hijack rick's thread where Ian is again professing the wonder's of his welding that make the rest of us wonder I decided to add my comments to another Multiplaz thread.
I went and looked at the MultiPlaz official videos and noticed they don't show the finished weld of any welding videos and no bend test etc. The aluminum one is a joke. only melting the rod (more like soldering than welding) no melt of the base metal. this is also on 1/8" plate and the specs claim it can weld 2" Haha.. When KD and I went to demo this the tech was still trying to get a decent weld on aluminum. Trying to melt the base metal Like in TIG was near impossible... we even tried using some Stick welding Al electrodes that are pre fluxed, that I bought along.
I think Ian and Danny went to the same welding school.. "It's ugly but it will hold" (til it breaks)

Re: MultiPlaz wleder/cutter

Yeah, Yeah, the wonders come from practice, and not everyone who's just seen it can speak from practice, it just takes a lot of re-learning.
