taking my 3/4" smaw test 2nd week of june

hey now.

im taking my 3/8" (3/4 thickness...my welding instructor said you gotta double the plate thickness of what your fillet welding together or something like that...basically ill be able to weld on 3/4" or below and be certified). after that im gonna go back and take the 1"-unlimited test.

im so excited...so if any of you pray keep me in your prayers that i pass. im good with stick, but all i need is one piece of stupid slag that i dont see, or one burp of the machine im using, or a stupid cramp in my foot or something in/out of the ordinary and its a fail.

its a fillet weld test, i believe the weld length is either 5" or 7" both over head and vertical. im just making 6" on a full rod, so im going a little slow. the welds are coming out fine, but i need to make sure i can make it atleast 5" in one pass. which im doing, just my teacher says i should have an inch more left on the rod than i do.

tomorrow since im not working im gonna weld all day.

oh and what did you guys wear to this? i dont feel like wearing a suede jacket all day and being uncomfortable and sweaty. i looked at cape/sleeves and all the ones that arent leather and look comfortable are for "light duty" welding. im guessing if im gonna be welding all day id need something a little more durable(?)
