This is a emblem I made out of 14ga and cut the FORD with a plasma by hand. It ain't perfect but looks decent. It's also about an 1" thick, but I didn't get a good pic of that.

Re: A few projects

Some nice projects you have done, have a question about how you did the Ford emblem. Did you cut the word Ford out of some 14 gauge then weld it to the Oval metal piece? It looks nice, just curious how you made it.

Re: A few projects

I just cut the FORD out of 14GA. by hand with a plasma. Turned out better than I thought it would, hard to keep steady. Here's another pic showing the depth, in the other it just looked flat.

Re: A few projects

My intentions were to put it on my ball mount behind the ball. I know I'd back into the trailer with it the first time I hooked up though. So I need to figure out another use for it. I might build a grille for that 68 and put the emblem in the middle, what do yall think?

Nice looking emblem you made , that would look sweet on a custom grille for your 68 . The rollpan came out great , nice work .

Re: A few projects

Does anyone have an idea of what that spear could be made of? It was a 20' stick sitting out back of a welding shop I used to work at, we made several spears out of it. Most of the spears got cut on the camagraph, just four sides into a spear and ground down but I wanted mine turned down on the lathe. you can see the coating it looks to be about 1/4" thick.

Re: A few projects

nope...

there is no evidence of weld (tip) anywhere...
i'm pretty sure its a solid shaft of T.G.P. ...

or a chrome plated piston shaft from an excavator..
that was put in a lathe and sharpend to a point..

discoloration between the tip and the shaft...

Re: A few projects

It looks about like a piston shaft but it was in a 20' piece. Maybe that's what it was made for. It's about 2 1/2" in dia.

Re: A few projects

I would figure pipe would bend under the weight of a 1000lb bale bouncing across a pasture. My dad has a couple that are solid, not pipe. One is made from some type of tool steel...high carbon stuff. It started out looking like that one above...really shinney. But, over time (30 years of continuous use) it has turned an even brown. It looks like a wrench from the 1920s that has been used continuously...smooth and brown. It was a store-bought one.

The other one was made, by me, from a solid truss rod. It's essentially a really thick (about 2-2.5" in diameter) grade 8 bolt. I found it at a scrap yard. I have no idea what it was used for, but it was threaded at both ends, with an 8.? stamped on the nut. Even though it's a little thicker than the storebought one, my dad manages to bend it....maybe it's because it's a different metal or that he uses it more, who knows. But, it's really hard to straighten that sucker...maybe "straighten" is a strong word...make it point forward again is more what I mean here.

Re: A few projects

I'm certainly not artsy at all, I have no sense style either. But sometimes things turn out ok. BTW, the hay spear is solid. I don't think it will ever bend, it's hardened or something. I have seen one snap though. The place I used to work (where I got that rod) made a few 3 point spears and one winter a guy brought his back that had snapped. I guess it being cold and a 2000lb bale were to much.

Re: A few projects

I'll try to get some more of the truck up here. Currently it don't have an engine, but I'm gonna pull the 390 stroker out of my beat up 76 and put in the 68 the a C6 behind it. And convert the front brakes to disc. I believe I'm gonna repaint again too.
