rebuild kit for OTC floor jack

Does anyone know where I can get one for a reasonable price? I found one for $85 but was hoping to get one for a bit less. It's an SPX-OTC 1732 3 ton floor jack.

I would check the Yellow Pages under Hydraulic Equipment Repair and call nearby shops, if any are listed. They may have all the parts you need, maybe just not in a kit form, but much cheaper.

Re: rebuild kit for OTC floor jack

Dunno about an OTC jack, but when my Walker took a dump on me after 40 years, I found these guys.
http://theserviceco.net/HOME.html

I just sent the jack unit to them and they rebuilt the hydraulics and tested it. Turn around time was about a week from "out of my place" to "back in service"

Give em a call. I was pleased with the service.

Re: rebuild kit for OTC floor jack

Thanks Rog, I did call him, he said he doesn't advertise OTC because he doesn't have a frame to test the cyl in, but he can still rebuild it and test it by "rigging" something up.
Looks like $115 plus return shipping. Also, I guess I'll have to pay initial shipping, so around $140 not bad to have a new $600 jack when it's done.

Glad it worked out for you!

I think all told at the time mine came in at around $120 shipping and all, but then again I just had to send it across the state. HMMMMM, 40 years of hard torture service and a $120 rebuild that will last until they shovel dirt in my face? Yeah, that's a decent investment, except about a month after I had that one rebuilt I found this on CL.

$50

She priced it, I paid what she asked.

No, I don't feel guilty.

The seller told me I was nuts to drive 60 miles (one way) to get an "old rusty jack". I did not have the heart to tell her she just gave me a $900 piece of equipment for next to nothing.

They had to copy from somebody right??? That jack was made USA as late as the 80s...

Now the above mentioned Walkers and Lincolns that were 4' long lifting 4000# from 6" to 36" in the 50's and 60's... YOU CAN ONLY DREAM! (that was just the jack, not the handle).

You might want to check NAPAonline.com. Their current version of the NAPA jack above is on sale for $189.00. I don't know if the current version is Made in USA.

Re: rebuild kit for OTC floor jack

Well I'm dragging up this old thread because I finally got my unit back from The Service Company after more than 6 months! Long story short he is not set up for OTC and I should have gone somewhere else.

Anyway I am putting it back together but I can't get the springs back on. They are at their lowest tension when the jack is completely down, but then there is no way to get to them. When I raise it enought to get at them I can't stretch them enough to hook. Any tips?

Re: rebuild kit for OTC floor jack

We used a "T" bar with a 'j' hook on the end to re-spring headlight buckets. Might try something like that out of O/A welding rod or some other stiff wire. Might be narrow enough to get the spring on the pin, then raise the jack & cut it with a pair of side cutters.

Re: rebuild kit for OTC floor jack

Thanks Mark, that was a great idea. As soon as I got home I went out there and made up one out of seismic wire and fastened it to one end of the spring, hooked the other end in the jack then lowered it almost all the way. A good tug and in 2 minutes I had both springs seated.
Thanks for getting me thinking, sometimes when you're mad or frustrated you just can't reason things out.

Re: rebuild kit for OTC floor jack

Ummm, I get that way most days........... dealing with people that think they know all about nursing/medicine............

And I prove they are dumber than a box of rocks!

Glad it worked for you my friend, I've had to have people tell me to do something simple & I have "Coulda had a V-8" moment. Complete with a head slap! HA

Sometimes we all just need a second set of eyes to tell us (after many hours of struggling) how its done...DOH Ps I've used the wire before too. Last time was MIL's riding mower.

I've worked on lots of stuff but there's lots more I haven't, and anyway, I don't remember the details of most 'projects' that well. What I'm saying is that either some good pictures or at least a diagram of the problem might help.

That said, can you attach a wire to one end of the spring, lock the jack stationary (clamped to a bench leg, one end of a welding table, a truck axle or whatever) and then use some device (a turnbuckle, a large vise-grip clamp, a small come-along...) to pull the other end of the wire to the point that you can push or pull the spring end into its holder?
