Why did the boat come with a free trailer?

Under the bow of the boat is an added piece of tubing about three feet long.

Should this be in the Safety Forum or is this a project that should have never been started?

OMG! What an Ugly Weld! But... at least it's a weld. Look at the open root on the bottom! Man the asking for trouble - weak and an open port for water/mud accumulation. That tongue is on borrowed time.
And no... ExpatWelder, I think you do better work than that - much better.

That would have been much better off it the guy had just bolted the splice on it and called it good, At least you can see when a bolt loosens up

Super strong and will last with that precisely located drainage port to prevent corrosion.

Jeez Hardware, you may be right... all I saw was a crack intiation site!
Complex folks like me would have drilled a couple drainage holes.

Hey Expatwelder, don't you be try-n to take credit for my best work. The OP lives in Kentucky (my home State), so I see nothing wrong with the redneck engineering on his trailer

Re: Why did the boat come with a free trailer?

If it's any consolation, It's pushing one 'weekend weldor' to have his trailer extended (for the same purpose, actually) by a professional, so it's doing some good!

Those Trailers Are Really Safety Devices for Trucks

Well those types of trailers are not reallly for hauling boats anyway, that is a secondary use.

Their primary function is to act as safety devices for your pickup.

Below Brother Billly Joe Bob demo's proper techniques in use of this safety device. There is no motion so who cares about welds. It is all about weight and mass, make it big back there please.

The second photo just shows what Billy avoided by using this critical safety device in a proper manner.

Damn the welds, hitch them up tight, close and personal. Prayer is optional

Re: Why did the boat come with a free trailer?

The trailer and boat traveled two hours from Indiana. I don't know how it didn't turn into a fiasco on the interstate. Dad has another boat trailer for the boat, this trailer is destined for major mods.

Re: Why did the boat come with a free trailer?

I always wondered how it turned out after the cheapskate said "That is too much. I have a buddy that can weld it up for cheap/owes me favor/beer" after he didn't like my bid. Now I know how it turned out!!
