1970 Bronco Build...

Here's a '70 Ford Bronco that I am working on for a customer.

So far I have completed the front bumper, built a custom trans cross-member, repaired both front floor pans, mounted new CAGE Off-road radius arms, added a James Duff "Torque Tamer" with custom brackets for the housing, installed a Wild Horses Track-bar bracket on the front diff., installed a fiberglass hood and made some modifications to the existing roll cage.

I still have to complete the rear bumper and spare tire carrier and do a couple of small odds and ends.

Underside of front bumper.

Re: 1970 Bronco Build...

I'd love to see 'em zap.

This ones got a 5.0 as well, with some other goodies like a Trick Flow intake and BBK throttle body, shorty headers, and MSD ignition. It's running a serpentine belt setup off of a Mercury Mountaineer with a Ron Davis Radiator and Vintage Air A/C.

- It also has on board air for the ARB air lockers, front and rear.

- Custom 9" Rear Housing with 4" axle tubes and Explorer disc brakes.

- And the ONLY tires worth a d@mn...Goodyear MTR's. (I race on Goodyear tires and they are absolutely the best, handsdown.)

I'm not much of a welder but I know what I like, and that's nice work. If that were my buggy, I'd be a very happy customer.

Re: 1970 Bronco Build...

Hey Paul..
How ironic is this?
last night my brother came over with the tranny pan from his bronco for me to fix..
there's a bung in the side of a stock pan where the dipstick tube screws into..
and if you tighten it up too much then this happens...

Name: tranny pan cracked.jpg
Views: 747
Size: 39.6 KB

to weld it flat just clamp to the table..

Name: tranny pan clamped.jpg
Views: 750
Size: 41.8 KB

fixed..no more leak..

Name: tranny pan fixed...jpg

man thats some thin stuff!!
but all is good now..

my brother looked at the bronco pics you posted..he loves it

but he has 1 question..
from underneeth it looks like you drilled and tapped into the transfer case and bolted it to the fabbed crossmember...

is he right?

...zap!

Re: 1970 Bronco Build...

No drilling and tapping here....

This Bronco has a Marlin Crawler Dual Transfer Case setup.

It has a C-4 Trans, with a Toyota Landcruiser T-case mated to a Dana 20 T-case.

Both have individual mounts. The Toyota being the factory and the D20 using a GM trans mount off the the gear cover plate.

Re: 1970 Bronco Build...

Everything but the floorboard is MIG with one of my Lincoln PowerMIG 200's.

The floorboard is TIG with silicon bronze filler.

...and thanks everybody for all of the compliments.

Re: 1970 Bronco Build...

MAN! your work is AWESOME.

Thanks for putting the pics up! I had a wild weekend and couldn´t check the site until now. You got the nice jobs bro and you make them look fantastic.

I just got one question...are you using the "tack welding method" to get those ripples in the front bumper?

Post pics as you can, we really love your work as u can see

Oh yeah, and what kind of steel are you using for the transmission mount? (the tubes and plate between the big Heims from underneath)

What settings did you use in your machine?
