Lincoln 175+ Wiring Help
I am a complete idiot when it comes to wiring. I am in the process of installing an outlet in my garage for my 220v welder. The outlet I have is a NEMA 6-50, matching my welder plug end. The question I have is that I bought a breaker (40amp) that obviously has two spots to attach wires to (two hots). The wire I got has basically 4 wires in it. A green ground wire, a white wire, a red wire and a black wire. The red and the black will be my 110v legs attaching to the spades of the plug. Do I do anything with the white? Ground goes to the round post I assume. Am I on the right track?

Re: Lincoln 175+ Wiring Help
Yes you got a wire with too many conductors. You need to cap off the white with a wire nut on both ends. Connect the red and black to the breaker and the green to the equipment grounding bus (not the neutral bus if they are different buses) in the breaker panel.
