Lets see your helmets + safety gear

Well heres mine Miller elite, which I love. And a 3m resipirator and some of the best gloves I've ever had that I got a princess auto for about $8. Also is my old princess auto AD that I had for about a year now.

Now its your turn

I must admit, the Optrel looks pretty spiffy. But I'd be afeared to scratch it.

Zap, you look, umm, bored. No dime in that photo?

Re: Lets see your helmets + safety gear

Some of the best $ Ive spent. Nah. It IS the best $ Ive spent on welding. Has the least "behind your head" exposure out there and is almost sinfull. So nice that Ive even forgotten how much I spent on it, but I do remember it being less than what they were charging for clearance... Oh yeah, its an Optrel Satellite in Cosmic Copper.

Re: Lets see your helmets + safety gear

Those Optrel helmets look really nice. I use the regular autodarkening ones you find at Princess atuo with the square plastic lens replacements and tend to burn them up pretty easy from gettin close to my welds. I like to see what I'm doing.
Whats the cost for the replacement lenses on the Optrel Helmets?
They don't sell those helmets anywhere where I live and I'd have to order one online or ebay it.

Well, I got a 10 pack of lenses with the helmet, but dont know what the replacements would cost otherwise. Found a pack of 5 at weldingsupply for $16. The only changes Id make would be an ipod adapter, Bose surround system, Plasma screen, and maybe A/C.Do you have an Airgas near you? Could give one a try if youre ever in there.

I thought that was all standard equipment on those helmets ????
I dunno about buying one now.

We have Princess Auto, but the only thing they carry in stock are those el-cheapo helmets for $19.99 and one autodarkening type...which I have.
I'm still in college, but once I'm done I'll be investing in one of these.
I know here in Canada some job sites now require welders to wear a hardhard while welding......doesn't look as if these ones are compatable.

Re: Lets see your helmets + safety gear

My Princess doesn't have the $99 AD in stock. Haven't for months. I was told they put them on sale all the time for $50 and I've been waiting, patiently.....

Although I've got a Jackson Apprentice AD and Selstrom AD neither are adjustable shades. For $50 I'm willing to try the Princess hood, if they ever get them in and have a sale.

I have a pic of my hoods. I wear uvex safety glasses. Yellow tinted indoors and on rainy days, dark mirrored on sunny days. 3M respirator with P100 filters. Black Stallion 200 gloves by Revco.

Re: Lets see your helmets + safety gear

The hood on the end is a Jackson. Its the same hood as the one below except it has a regular shade 10 green lense. I painted it silver so I knew it was mine when everyone here wore the same kind.
The 3M half mask respirator fit them like a glove. Its the same one RichCharles has. The exhaust vent lines up with the vent on the Speedglas hood. I don't know if it was planned or not but works good. I weld in the rain and cold and have never had a Speedglas hood fog up. It was a constant problem with my Jacksons. I always carried a bottle of Joy soap. One thing about it, It always smelled lemmon fresh in my hood. Just a pain in the rear though.

Re: Lets see your helmets + safety gear

Rub a little joy soap on the lens and it keeps it from fogging up. You have to reapply it a couple times a day but it takes care of it.

Here ya go:

And, yes, I know the plastic is still on my helmet. I put a new front lens in last night and am leaving it on until I weld again.

Re: Lets see your helmets + safety gear

Anyone recommend decent clape sleeves in Ontaro. Something decent, leather, not to much stratch. I don't want a full jaket, too hot when it's 90F outside. I happy with my apron and gloves and chopped up an apron to make a hood cover and bib with piped in air from another apron over my hood. Keeps me cool on hot days and keeps the fumes out, even galvy. Protects my neck and arms great. I don't use use a respirator, positive pressure keeps the junk outside of my hood.

Thanks

Not shown in my pics, but I got me some leather sleeves at Airgas...work great, $8. Just pull 'em up above the elbows and tighten the strap.

Re: Lets see your helmets + safety gear

Well well, just came home from Princess Auto with a $50 AD.

Now, can a HF AD user tell me if there's any reference in their manual or on their hood to model # AVH-10x ? Really curious here if I have the same thing as HF.
