Re: scrap iron prices up

The load I carried off a couple of days ago was 2800lbs and I got $266 for it. $9.50 a 100. It wasn't short stuff either, it was a truck!

Re: scrap iron prices up

Yeah I'm not much for scraping cars. To me every part of a car is usable.

Like the other day at the yard I seen a guy scraping a 89 Fifth Avenue, and I need a rear end for one. Funny coincidence.

The block is sized, someone cut the right front fender to get to the heater core. She's sitting on drum/hubs, all the motors are gone from the seats/windows & doors.......but she is loaded w/very nice CHROME, all over. I had someone come look at it, seemed interested, never came back?

Are you all getting a dollar a pound for SS no matter what grade? Here alot of the places will try to stick a magnet to it and if it even remotely is drawn to it they dont want it..or offer to take it for next to nothing.

Yahh, they both have not moved in the 23 years we have been here on the farm. I'm guessing from looking at the ground in the general vacinty, there was quite a bit more equiptment around 'em. 16 years ago, we gave 20 + implements to a local history groupe, "Field Day Of The Past", we had a "field day come tax time<LOL>!

"I've never taken them any silverware, LOL"

I am a Rigger by trade and when we replace a whole suit of standing rigging we are left with hundreds of pounds of 1X19 ss wire as scrap. Now i know the wire is 316 grade ss. I also know most ss can become slightly magnetic if it is put under large strains which all of this wire has been and for up to 20 to 30 years. We probably have over a ton of it laying around right now that no one will take and i dont know what to do with... and no im not gonna just give it away because it has to be worth something.

Re: scrap iron prices up

Well I have myself a nice scapping job here soon. My mothers company owns a house locally that someone put a big work shop type cab, in the back yard. It looks military, maybe off a duce. Was on something with dual wheels. Anyways its just the work bed sitting on the ground. They used it for a shed I guess. its on the property line so it has to move. It is double wall construction so I think it will weigh around 3500-4000 lbs.

Good Luck,
If it wasn't such a pita to move I would keep the damn thing and use it for a camper to go onto a duce some day. Dad wants to make a sportsman's type truck for fishing hunting and canoing. But its too damn heavy and I have no where to put it.

I'll post some pics in another thread and the weight when i scrap it. Unless someone wants it!

Now that I think more about it Bruce. I would rather just make a trailer for the damn cab than to scrap it. Its in good shape, even has paint!
