Hi to everyone, I just want to say hi to all of you, I am new to the forum. I searched and I got no result on this Super 160 unit. I saw this super 160P welder on ebay, I was wondering anyone of you got it. mainly I want to buy a Tig to weld 1/4 inch to 1/2" inch alumnium and 1/2" stainless steel. I have a MIG but I have no luck welding alumnium so... I also like it because It has a Plasma cutter , let me know how it sounds , what other alternative are there....my price range is around 700-1200 , I needed plasma and Tig.

I think some people are buying the Parker unit. Check new posts, there are a few on here.

Are you sure you need to weld 1/2 inch aluminum? Reason I ask, is that it's generally stated that it takes roughly 1 amp for every .001 inch of aluminum. Since 1/2 inch = .500, it would require roughly 500 amps to weld aluminum in A/C mode. It also depends on how big the piece is too. Generally though, this machine probably won't do aluminum thicker than 3/16.

I'm new to Tig welding, but I thought welding aluinum require A/C instead of DC, that's why I pick the Super 160a AC/DC over the ParkerMP PTS, CT416 and CT518D ( I thought they are DC only), I like those unit , they are cheaper too. are those unit captiable of welding alumnium???? oh by the way do I need some shielding gas for the Super 160A for Alumnium?

You will need AC. You'll also want straight argon for all metals with that unit.

I welded 1/2 " alumninum with a 150 AMP ac unit but doubled beveled (welded a bead) on bothsides.
