I just picked up this welder off craigslist and I'm looking for some information on it. Looks like it was set up for Mig. Is it Mig only? Anyone have an owners manual? I've got to get a phase converter before I can see if it works so in the meantime I'm looking for information. Thanks for the help. Here is the info off the tags:

Welcome to Weldingweb!

A 3 phase machine...but only 200 amp? That seems odd to me.
According to the serial number, looks like it was built in 1977. An oldie
but a goodie. If it has a MIG gun attached, it's probably MIG only.

Yea, I thought that was odd as well, but that is what the tag reads. Picked it up cause the price seemed more than fair and I've been looking for a supplement to my Lincoln stick welder. Thanks for the reply and the input.

OCV 38, Its probably only a CV power supply. If it would do stick, it would be ocv of 50+

Seems like the tag is rating things rather low for having a 480V/3 Phase power input capability.

Do you have a fax number? I can fax you the manuals.

KSellon - do you have manuals for other Hobarts as well?

3 filing cabinets full, plus a lot of uninventoried parts.

Hi all

KSellon, would you have a manual for a Hobart Mega Arc 300. I just bought it off Craigs list as well. Havn't fired it up yet but it's in excellent shape.
Thanks Chris

I have manuals for all Hobart welders. Just email me what you need.

i just picked up one of these same welders. I was wondering if its possible to rewire this welder instead of using a phase converter to use single phase. Ive read some posts on people doing this with their units and was curious if its possible with this one.

Hi KSellon,

This guy's in dire need.

We bought a RC-256 also, been trying to re-wire to use on single phase. Figure that we will be better off to build a phase convertor. The line voltages on this machine are 230/460/575V and is also tag rated at 200amps with OCV at 38. Was used as a sheet metal spot welder, manufacturing filing cabinets.
