I am restoring a 1947 Hobart GR200 Jeep MB powered welder. Does anyone know the original color of the machine and engine? Most of the remaining paint looks to be "battleship grey". Alex's 1954 machine is gold color, much like the newer Hobart color, but I dont see any of that on mine. Any help MOST appreciated!:help:

Tthe earliest model that I see in gold is a 1961 model. My catalogs show a GR-215S and a GR-210S that would be grey. I have a pic of a very early GR202 "Streamliner" that I'll bet was gold. Most units of your era were either grey or olive drab(military). Suprisingly, I can't find a pic of your exact unit... is the amperage control on the end of the unit or on the long side under one of the hinged canopy "hoods" ? Dave

To be sure I would need to see the shape of the metal that is on the outside of the radiator, also a picture of the far end of it opposite the radiator end would help. But if all your finding is grey then I'll bet thats what it originally was. If your gonna restore it completely, they do look really classy in the gold color...just my 2 cents..

There is a photo of a 1955 hobart here on eBay, gray is the color.

This is a new rheostat for the Hobart on eBay, too.
