I'm looking at getting a 17 series air cooled tig torch for my hobart stickmate I was wondering what is a better set up a gas lens kit or just the standard collet and collet body

A gas lens is the better setup. The question is , do you need it, or will it be worth it.

They both have their advantages:

Gas Lens collet bodies can save you argon if you keep the flow low
Gas lens collet bodies can allow for more tungsten stick-out if you increase the argon flow (but you lose the gas-saving effect)
Standard Collet bodies don't have mesh screens to clog up when you: dip the tungsten, try to weld over contaminated metal, lose gas flow, get your gas blown away by a breeze/draft <--all of which can cause the puddle to "blow-out" and spit out molten metal spatter up into the cup.
