Looking at a slightly used machine from a private home shop. I know it's an older machine but the power supply looks to be simple and about bomb proof with no boards. I know nothing about the wire feeder but I am curious about the availability of a shop/ service/ parts manual and a source for drive wheels for the feeder, and if it takes a standard gun. Thanks in advance for the help.

You can get manuals at ITW Hobart call or ask on web site.
Here's where it gets tricky. support and parts for these machine went to Thermal Arc.
Support has been stopped. But there are a few parts left if you can find the part numbers.
Have your LWS check with both ITW hobart and thermal arc about parts.
Some parts were used in many different models on both sides.
The 17 feeder is a simple unit, a couple of relays, variable transformer and some diodes.
unless a jumper is installed the wire will not feed unless the aux switch on the weld contactor get closed as the contactor closes. The Fab 300 may be and SCR machine so the jumper may already in place. Drive rolls might be your only problem. But I know of one guy who put drive rolls in a lathe and took1/1000 off and they started working.
