I got my TIG cooler all set up and running.
It's a snap to install. Going to enjoy having a small torch and cup size that don't get hot.
A bit on the loud side, but I'm getting used to it.
I like when you turn the welder off, the cooler shuts off too.
 
Sweet. That set-up looks familiar. :) Should've opt'd for gas lens collet bodies though. I would have. Unless those are just spares.

I went with these for now. I'll get some of those down the road.

I have their torch and a few of their gas lens sets but I have it hooked to a different cooler (got a deal I couldn't pass up). Their torches are fantastic.
The super flex lines are amazing. I really do like them. The water cooled torch seems a bit heavier than the air cooled one, but I guess it should be.
 
i remember some talk of the htp coolant turning black for some reason. mine did the same thing in a short amount of time. besides that it also kind of seperates like a oil slick in water or something. been meening to contact htp and see what they say about but havent got around to it yet. surely theyre aware of this and must have a good explanation. anybody talked to htp about this and what other coolants can be used that wont damage it ?

Mine turned a lil Brown but that was because I only used distilled water and algae inhibitor. Using pink rv antifreeze for about 6mo had no detrimental effect and didn't change color. Just recently swapped it out for HTP coolant + distilled water + algae inhibitor.
 
Nice to have a cooler that turns on and off with the welder! My Dynasty 200 lacks that feature and I've barely escaped with my life a couple of times that I've started welding without the cooler pump running! No damage that I've found so far but that cannot be good for the TIG lead!

It's been about 5 months. I have never looked at the coolant. Might do that today if I remember.
It's been a great setup so far! I can weld all day long if needed.
I'm pretty much used to the noise. My garage is tiny so my machines are right on top of me.
I really do like the turn on/off the welder and the cooler gets turned on or off too.
 
So b-o-b, do you have the cooler hooked up to the htp221. I've been looking/thinking about the artic chill for some time now. I will be going for the dv setup when I pull the trigger. I spent about 7k on HTP equipment last year and had to let the debt card cool off a bit.
Should be ready to pull that trigger before too long.

I used my 221 air cooled torch to weld some parts for a construction company that were all 1/4 material. I had to add helium to get the performance needed. I also ruined a torch cable, but that was all my fault. How thick of material can you weld with the small water cooled torch?

Glad to hear the good things about the cooler.
 
I also have the 221 with the arctic chill. I do not use the HTP coolant as the freeze protection level was a concern for me here in the northeast. I ended up using the miller coolant as is protects down to like 40 below or something like that

Some of the guys are using automotive coolant. How is this working for you.

There will always be arguments for- and against- using automotive antifreeze in tig coolant systems. The against-crowd argue that automotive anti-freeze coolant will end up plugging up the torch head. The for-crowd argue that they've been using automotive anti-freeze in tig coolers for years if not decades.
 
Is the plugging up thing a FACT or a guess that this will happen. If people have been using auto anti-freeze for years without issue and some get plugged up torch heads there must be deciding factor. If it works . . . it works! Pink RV anti-freeze is even non toxic. 50/50 mix of auto stuff w/algae inhibitor for about a third of the cost and lower temp protection too. These are both closed systems, I don't see why the argument against using it other than someone labeled a product especially for tig coolers. I'm not trying to argue or start one. Just wondering why not use it since it seems to work well. At times my setup will live in the trailer. It's been known to get pretty cold in the winter in Missouri. Low temp protection would be very nice anytime the temps dip below freezing.

So why can't you turn the cooler on with your Dynasty 200DX? Its a sample matter as running a plug off the Dynasty's switch output. Thats what I did.

BTW I use RV antifreeze and it works just fine.:waving:

Me personally I say that people are speculating. One person said that the coagulates found in automotive anti-freeze will clog up the "small passages" in the head of a water cooled tig torch because those same coagulates are used in automotive anti-freeze to help plug up small leaks. I don't buy it because even in cheap torches the copper tube that is brazed around the torch head is what I would consider considerably larger than a "small orifice" with respect to leaks in an automotive cooling system. If you got a 1/16" diameter hole in the cooling system, the anti-freeze leaking out sure won't plug it, LOL.

Of course, this could have been due to several other factors that possibly caused the clogging. I do not advocate using it I coolers and will not use it myself because of my experience with coolers coming in super nasty with that stuff inside them.

Again, I only know what I have seen. I'll just spend the money on the factory stuff.
