When I first got my esab. I assembled it in my kitchen then pulled the trigger…. Nothing. No feed, no click. Wait 2secnods it began to slow feed then after another second full speed.

Have you welded with the machine?

I think the race to keep up with inverter technology killing the big mfg who want to stay in the hobbyist level market. Then the hide behind customer service and tech support. Now tech support cannot keep up with the info and technology in the machine.

built in predetermined preflow is a bad idea. its better to have it adjustable. and 2sec is far to much for common steel. .1 or .2 is all you need

Agree. The whole synergistic concepts seems subjective. Seems like more machines will need to offer trial runs, since a machine may not fit your expectation.

The 2 second is controllable, since when you contact the material it begins to weld normally. So you can immediately contact the material and pull the trigger.

Are you actually striking an ark when the gas stops flowing or just squirting out wire from the tip. The gas valve has a timer to shut the gas off for times when you are loading a new spool of wire etc. it saves gas.

now if this happens while you are actually welding then you have a problem.

I like a little pre-flow and post-flow especially on the post side. It doesn't waste all that much gas. More gas is likely wasted due to bad ground, wrong stick out or dirty material start overs.

does thiis machine not have adjustable flow and seperate button for spooling wire and purging gas and setting cfh ? seems alot of money to not have those features

i understand what your trying to say. if you squirt wire out and the machine doesnt detect the arc after say 3sec it shuts gas flow off.

Have the same problem. Middle of a beautiful weld and would act like the gas was shut off. Pull the trigger and gas would flow properly for a second or two and drop off to a trickle. Found a troubleshooting manual and opened up machine to find out the gas solenoid wasn't getting full voltage and drop off to close to zero after a brief time. PCB3 is bad. Don't want to know how much the board is. Awfully expensive stick welder after a few years of light use.

when you hit the $2k mark your within sight of euro machines and the assembled in usa miller. for me atleast ,it would be near impossible to justify the assembled in india stuff if im that far into it

Components come from all over the world and are funneled into the machines. It's really not the welders fault if something doesn't hold up. The bad thing is the reputation takes a long time to cleanse itself after a bad batch. Even Lincoln L56 wire will have a bad bad batch from time to time.

A brand I recently designed was awesome for several years until Covid. The top notch Chinese factory was forced to source a few board components from a previously unused source. Guess what happened. A couple hundred failures later and I bailed out and retired. That brand is now in limbo.

So how has your 215 performed for you? 8 years is a decent amount of time. If there were no problems its likely you won't have any for some time.
I had some minor issues. Some of which were growing/learning pains. Had the machines software updated a bit before the warranty expired.

I always unplug my machine from the wall when not in use to try and prevent any angry pixies from zapping the boards while not in use. Never know when some Random speed racer is going to introduce his car to an electric pole or when mother nature will strike a transformer etc.

Try to never run beyond duty cycles and keep it clean and and let it run a complete fan cycle before shutting it down even if just used for a quick few beads.

I have been happy with it. Been using a 15' Tweco spray master 250 since shortly after getting it. Use the knurled rollers to feed wire and it works great. Some times I get issues when welding dirty/painted thinner materials. I've been happy with it. The Smig mode makes it easy to learn mig welding and dialing in the settings to match material thickness a breeze. I never use it in manual mode unless using Dual shield flux core wire.
