I do have a bar that can go across my bench with clamps welded on it but was thinking this could work. What do you think?

Are you trying to hold the bar down to the table?
Or hold the bar so it doesn't slide?
Two magnets might be better.
Here is a pic of two ways to use the magnets. One is flat to the table and the bar butted up against it. The other magnets is tipped at an angle and hold the plate down

Replace the magnets with clamps. Would need to bolt a piece of angle to the magnet then use a wedge to go in between angle bolted to magnet and frame it part being welded
