Good link. Interesting to see the differences in required wall thickness in MS vs 4130.

That makes for a little light reading. Actually for an old time muscle car guy, such as my self, I don't remember ever reading them. Thanks I saved myself a copy and will read later (too late now).

And yet they will grant exceptions to use alternative welding processes provided you supply data that backs up your request.

Might be nice to add NASA and or SCCA regs as well. In addition to defining the rules, these regs also outline the design and construction principles that should be followed (or at least understood) even if you're not building to a class.

    NASA is here...
    http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/ccr.pdf
There are class specific rules contained in other docs in some cases but the basics are in the CCR.

    SCCA is here...
    http://www.scca.com/assets/2013%20GCR%20March.pdf
They update the GCR every month but the cage basics stay the same and all the classes are included in the one doc.

Local NASCAR varies like other local circle track. SCORE doesn't have rules online and most of the other alphabet soup of off road (SNORE, MORE, BITD, HDRA) derive their rules from the SCORE rulebook.
Enough stuff to build and repair wrinkled up race cars or bring a classic back to life...

If you spend $35.00 at www.sfifoundation.com you can get a book for the chassis you want to build that has the type of tubing, sizes and how and where each tube should go. well worth the money.

SCCA references to AWS D1.1 for welding will hopefully be changing in the near future once AWS D10.17 is released, since D1.1 has absolutely no business being referenced in an automotive application!
