Duane...don't even think it. lol metalman21 has the right idea. She's way too far gone.

I got my Commander 42 splashed after applying three coats of bottom paint and I had a bit of time to burn one afternoon. So I broke out the fine sandpaper and buffing compounds and went to work on one of the stainless stanchion pipes I welded up two+ years ago. It's amazing how nice it looks. Comparing the finished pipe to the mill finish...you wouldn't think they were the same pipe!

I took some big moldings that have been sitting in the lumber stack to a local wood shop, had them resawn to 5/8", then I jointed them down to 1/2" boards. I'm using those to make fascia panels for the aft stateroom. I got the starboard side done last week and the port side done over the weekend. They turned out really nice.

I got the center fascia board cut and fitted. Chris Craft used three mahogany boards painted white, with poor joinery between them. I'm going with one loooooong piece of beautiful mahogany that'll be clear coated with ICA two-part polyurethane. It's off at the paint shop now. I should have it back in time for the weekend.

    Booya. Progress.

The fascia boards went to the paint shop and came back in time for me to install them over the weekend. They look awesome...much better than the white painted boards Chris Craft used. ;-)

This is a big step toward getting the headliner installed. Progress. Booya.

I got the last of the filler panels installed in the aft stateroom. Those are the panels that I'm putting between the ceiling frames so the Whisper Wall headliner tracks will have something to attach to. It's not glamorous or pretty, like the mahogany fascia panels, but getting these installed is mission critical for getting the headliner in. I've only got two more steps to go before I call the headliner guy.

    Progress.

I made a mahogany box that will hide the slider hardware for the aft stateroom head door. That's pretty much a wrap on prepping the aft stateroom for the headliner installation. The Whisper Wall installer is coming soon!

I jumped into the V-berth and got all of the headliner track mounting pieces installed all around the perimeter. I also got the Kai LED mounting panels installed and the wiring hooked up. It's not glamorous, but getting this step done is the second to the last thing I have to do before the headliner tracks can be installed. Progress. Booya.

Re: Aluminum Chris Craft Roamer refit project

I got the framing for the slider screen for the V-berth hatch installed at just the right height. I'll use that fuzzy stuff (can't think of the name of the product) to seal the screen frame to the headliner so bugs can't get in when the hatch is open. I just have to finish cleaning up some wiring and I'm ready for the headliner installer to come out and put in more track.

    Progress.

The Whisper Wall headliner installer showed up over the weekend and got the tracks installed in the V-berth. This is funky stuff, but the guy's got skills. This is going to look great when it's all installed!

I don't want to hold up the headliner installation, but I had to get the base coat of varnish on the V-berth/galley bulkhead since the headliner will butt up against it on the V-berth side. Six coats of ICA base clear later, it looks pretty good.

I've been working to get the living spaces ready for the headliner installation for several months now. Over the weekend, the headliner installer came out. We broke open the Whisper Wall box, and he got busy. I have to say, it's turning out very nicely.

I'm working on some things in the V-berth, so the headliner installer got busy in the aft stateroom. He got three panels installed, then I went through and installed the Kai LED lights. This is looking really good!

    Thanks Duane!

The trim ring for the aft stateroom hatch hole is looking great! Chris Craft used aluminum molding, which had some corrosion coming through the anodizing. I decided to go with mahogany.

Are you sure mahogany is going to look good in there?

I know! It's a metal boat! Everything should be metal!!! lol

It was hard putting that veneer in the hatch hole. I cut the piece a half inch or so bigger than the height of the tube, which only gave me 1/4" of leeway top and bottom. And it was four feet long, so if I didn't have it aligned just right at the start, it'd run out of alignment as I went around the hole pushing it in place. Anyway, I got it in and I have to say...it looks pretty good. Definitely better than the white paint Chris Craft used.

Re: Aluminum Chris Craft Roamer refit project

I have been holding off with my usual question, but I can't wait any longer. How big is the wood pile now? Will we see pics of it in the water this summer/fall? I see a lot of the finish pieces done and it is a very nice boat. When will it be seaworthy? A guess will do.
    Regards
    Dave
