I have welded many tanks myself too. Now I'm rethinking those!

    Re: Compressor explosions

ForHire, I did the 2 liter soda bottle experiment with a bunch of kids for a science fair. We were making them into rockets, building a release trigger into the design. They would go up 100' with the right ratio of air and water. They are also powerful, they would work even with a basketball on them.
The same kids wanted to separate oxygen and hydrogen. I put a couple ounces in a bottle with the rest being water. I lit it off and everyone got soaked. After that the kids stopped making a separator that filled 33 gal trash cans. They wanted to make a hydrogen powered car. I think I convinced them they would level the neighborhood.

No problem. I just happen to work for a major supplier of Hot Rolled Sheet Products and Hot dip and electro galvanized sheet. We sell a ,lot of 100X AKDQ deep draw high strength sheet to companies that draw and form compressor tanks and propane CNG tanks. Chem-Trol being one.

I'm just in the trucking end. They own a very large private fleet to deliver their products, but I get to fiddle around in the plants when I want to.

I just realized the concrete trucks around here use there air to pressurize a water tank much like my design, any thoughts on it? I could actually make my design with no welding, just a saddle type mount instead.

Re-read this thread. That was covered above here. People have died when water tanks on concrete trucks exploded.

Idiot OEM made an aluminum pressure vessel without following the pressure vessel Codes and tried to claim it wasn't a pressure vessel after several injuries and fatalities due to said 'pressure-vessel-that-isn't-a-pressure-vessel' failed catastrophically.

ASME pointedly said 'You made a pressure vessel'.

    OEM lost the lawsuits.

If you want to make a pressure vessel, follow all of the applicable Codes.

Otherwise, make a water tank and put a pump and hose on it.

Pretty bad when I didn't catch that on my own thread. I wish there was an easy answer, these things put out a lot of fires! It looks like I'm going back to a pump design! There are companies that make ones like mine 3000 gallons! They charge with vacuum to fill with no pump and discgarge with air pressure. Basically they look like a propane truck. I'm sure they have a lot more permits and certs than I do!

I used to drive concrete trucks where we pressured the water tanks.....

The ones here in Ca still use them, that's why I wondered who certifies them.
