Sheet metal brake build need advice

anyone have any ideas for clamping this brake without nuts and bolts. maybe a lever style clamp or hydraulic. I will be grateful for all advice and tips. Also any ideas for mounting a hydraulic ram for bending.

    why no nuts and bolts?

I would think some good size acme thread and some oversized butterfly type nuts would do great in this application. Think vice handle welded to the nut complete with ball ends. quick on, quick off. plenty of torque. and easy to set up.

I would like to be able to lock it down without going end to end

what is the best way to keep the top from flexing up when bending and the best way to keep the bending piece from flexing?

I would burn holes at each end of the frame to stick HD Bessy Sliding clamps through and be done with it. I'm no expert builder but without the machine's bending arm being bushed out (TIGHT) I don't see how cams would work properly and consistently .

add a truss to the clamping and bending sections. 6"-12" center bar with a strap that goes from either end of the clamping/bending sections. the strap should be under tension to prevent movement when bending. the end of the clamping section should have approximately 1/8" of deflection on both ends to make sure there is no slack in the strap when the ends are clamped down.

you'll note, that having the truss will prevent any effective single clamping system unless you go with a hydrollic/pnuematic system. Otherwise you're going to be going from one side than the other to lock it down.

the clamp-bar edge should be close to the centerline of the pivot pins.

Why wouldn't you just drill holes every six inches (clearance on top hold down, and then drilled and tapped on the bottom support.) Then use two simple bolts and washers to hold things tight, one at each edge of your workpiece. Cheap, functional. With that angle iron on top you won't need any brace truss, what you have should be plenty strong. Every six inches should be enough to give you some options on material width.

If the material you want to bend is only 9" wide you'd have a bolt to bolt hold down width of 12". If you need better support, fine... then drill a hole every three inches. I'd use 1/2-13tpi allen head machinist style bolts. Put them as close as possible to the angle iron vertical face.

    Am I missing something?

I think I would add a leg to each side with pads on the bottom which have 1" nuts welded to them that go on the inside of the legs for 1" height adjusting bolts..... and just gorilla tack the legs and gussets to the bottom of the platen to check heat distortion.
