They call it spaghetti cause it's skinny and wiggly. Half inch stainless is a pain in the butt.

Experiments on copper, for a project.

Welds autogenously really easily. Ditto with filler wire. Biggest issue is managing the heat input - if you think aluminium is tricky, this is twice as bad!

But it's much harder to braze due to the similar melting points. Shame, cos I love the colour contrast.

Have you tried it Straight Polarity DC? That is what I do copper, magnesium, bronze, and brass with. You have to have small filler wire and you have to poke it into the weld. Then you let it melt in, kill the heat and move forward. The weld face will be very small and it penetrates very deeply. The metal and filler have to be very clean.

    Sincerely,

    William McCormick
If I wasn't so.....crazy, I wouldn't try to act normal, and you would be afraid.

    Yeah that was all DCEN.

    Constant current or manually pulsing?

I had steady current for it all except the plate to tube weld, that was a 1hz pulse.

On this end of the country we have rednecks. They search for targets. They are far more prolific & accurate here, and they know where to hide bodies. No bodies have ever been searched for hard enough to find. I believe VT is at 51st in the nation at finding hidden bodies. It saves the state a fortune in funerals for John & Jane Does.

Liberals are offended when I say "In VT murder is perfectly legal." While liberals are hard at work fighting to exonerate murderers, we Vermonters take little notice. We haven't convicted a murderer in decades.

Maybe we are liberal & don't even know it. Our conviction rate is similar to California, but anybody here who has killed has the support of the people.

Those who kill innocents don't get tried.

An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. A pessimist is usually right, when wrong, is delighted, and well prepared.

I've found brazing copper with 45 or 56% silver filler quite easy, are you using phos bronze to braze?

Thanks! Not my best effort, but I was just excited to be welding something bigger than 3/4" for a change.

    I'm using silicon bronze.

silver filler sounds interesting, would leave a lovely looking bead... I may have to find some!

    Opus
2 inch schedule 40 316L. Butted up tight, fused root using 90/10 Argon/Hydrogen. Using a foot pedal, so no idea how many amps, just go by feel.
