    Re: Welding table picture thread

I had an issue with my 1/2 inch thick welding/layout table - ended up warping it from too much heat. Short story - in involved too much thinking fluid being applied to the operators.

Anyway, I have been looking to upgrade and found this the other day. 1" thick - 49" x 86". 4x6x1/4 legs and 4x4x1/4 angle for the cross members.

Plate weighs just short of 1200#, it should work for the long haul. I kept the old table so I can run long pieces across the two.

Good work, Toad. I've been thinking about a similar design for a small welding table. Part of my design is to replace the deck of one of those cheap hydraulic lift carts with a top similar to yours. That way I could unload the truck more easily and be able to weld items from all different kinds of positions and heights.

Here's my extremely humble welding table. It's all I have room for right now. It's a 20" x 30" piece of 1/4" plate with angle welded on the sides to stand it up off of my workbench. I'm trying to learn to TIG weld. I think there's hope but I have a ways to go yet.

    Welding table picture thread

Thought I’d post this here as it IS kinda weld table related.

I came across a pair of FREE cast iron table saw extensions on the weekend. I used them for making welding setup squares based on the ones available from Fireball Tools:

    https://fireballtool.com/

Welded CRS flat bar to the cast iron using 1/8” 309L SS rods at 96 amps. The cuts were challenging as my horizontal bandsaw wouldn’t handle a 15” wide cut for the 45°. Had to use a combo of abrasive chop saw, bandsaw and angle grinder with zip cut wheels.

    I mentioned FREE didn’t I?.........

Terry, that is seriously impressive work!

I love those Fireball Tool squares and keep meaning to get some more of them. No way I could weld up something as nice as you did!!

Dang Terry. Here I am at FABTECH and I just bought a set of the 8 inch cast iron squares. I thought I was getting a good deal at 20%off.

So jealous! Not only going to Fabtech, but getting to meet Jason and 20% off some of his squares?!? Amazing! I bet there was a ton of cool stuff there, but all I can do is watch for the highlights on Welding Tips n Tricks and the Abom79 channel.

Did you see the series on Abom79's channel where he took a raw casting from Fireball and turned it into a machinist's fixture plate? It came out beautiful!

I have not seen the video. I will look for it tonight.
I bought the last set of cast iron squares he had on hand. I bought them yesterday but cant pick them up for a few hours until it is closer to the end of the show.
I also bought his new adjustable square.
They were very nice guys in the booth but they said they underestimated the interest in their product and sold out of a few items.
They had the new table there as well.
I need to win the lottery in order to buy everything I saw here that I want.
The squares set me back a bit but I will get a variable speed grinder very soon to take advantage of some of the finishing discs I picked up.

Your squares are a great idea. I see a lot of old table saws for sale on Craigslist with cast iron tops. So you already have nice and nearly perfect 90 degree corners.
If you have a milling machine, once you rought cut the 45s for the triangles or angles like the combi squares, you could mill them to nearly perfect angles.

A new square? Is it just that it's 12" or something? I didn't see anything "new" on his website a few minutes ago, but maybe he was waiting until after Fabtech to put it up?

    Enjoy yourself and travel safe.

Well, dang, that's a neat square. I'm gonna have to ponder on that for a bit!

No autograph. He was busy at the time.
I also saw Jody Collier, Jim Colt, and I pretty sure she was the lady, (African-American welder) who had been on the Jesse James show years ago.

BKToad, nice ! I like the color too. You may consider maybe adding a piece of sheetmetal above your machine and maybe regulator too. You could drop something in between the slats and hit machine or get weld spatter on it. I know I would definitely drop something.. I prefer a independent cart for machine . With a cart your machine can be positioned for minimum cable bend at machine. If you look at your picture the cable has a pretty tight bend which can affect wire feeding and possible kink wire. I know the cable is coiled in its holder. It appears any welding on table that the cable will have a bend. Normally the straighter the better. I'm not trying to offend you just saying.

FABTECH is great !!! You can apply for FREE TICKETS too. I have been to it in Vegas, Chicago, and this week in Atlanta. Talking to vendors the BEST and largest is Chicago and Vegas second. Atlanta was nice but small and not as much freebies. I'll post later some pics on this years goodies.

Hi Pat, well I registered for it but wasn't sure when I was going. I was in Jacksonville Florida and stopped on way home. My wife was with so I didn't have much time. We left Florida because of her RA flare up.
I wasn't on Weldingweb for awhile. Too busy Visting and having fun. I wish I would have check this.
Well here's my goodies. I got 32 wheels/ DISCs. A unusual freebie were two 12" disc. The backpack us really nice. Sorry we couldn't meet up.

Nice. Trick or treating for welders!

I have yet to attend a Fab Tech but I used to attend the Farm Show every February in Tulare Ca. The metal working vendors there were probably only 1/100th of one percent of the vendors at Fab Tech, but I always packed an empty suitcase for goodies.

    Re: Welding table picture thread

This was a great week for me.
On my way to Atlanta, I stopped by a friends house. He also makes scrap metal art and gave me the items in the first pic.
The second pic is my haul from the show this year.

If you decide to go, try to have a decent pitch to the companies so you can zero in on what you want as a sample.

I was using my work on aluminum scuba tanks as examples so ended up with a lot of aluminum cutting, grinding and finishing discs.

The third pic are the Fireball squares I purchased at the show.

Fourth pic is of the rigidizer, refractory, safety glasses, tapered fuller and brass brush I ordered for the smithy.

Finally, was the best item of the week. My very own long sleeve Three Rivers Forge shirt.

Nice !!!! You did great !! Was this your first Fabtech show ? Atlanta is small compared to Vegas and Chicago is huge. I talked to vendors that I received 1/2 X 18 sanding belts in the other shows. Sadly they didn't bring any this time. I said I came just for the belts ! Atlanta isn't as busy as the others so they didn't bring everything.
I really cleaned up at Walters. I only had limited time so I hit the ones I did best on last year. The backpack us my favorite and two 12" discs.
Sorry I couldn't meet up with you guys.

I was at Vegas the last time it was there and did well there. I ended up with more sanding belts and even received a box of 6x48 belts from two different vendors after the show.
After I flew home from Vegas, I had a note in my checked bag that TSA had looked in my bag. I am sure it looked strange going through the Xray.

I m going to try to convince my work to send me to Chicago but we will see.
