What are the best stick welding gloves you can buy?

What do you pros use for stick welding with 1/8" rod.
Which brand and material gives the most protection as well as dexterity.
I have seen Tillman , which go for 35-75.00 a pair, or they sell single gloves for higher temperature.
How to you buy the correct size, if buying online, or should I go to my lws and try them on, if they carry the top brands.
    Thanks for any info

I've used the Miller HD gloves (the white ones) They were ok. Fingers got hard though with too much heat. Maybe my fault. I've been using the Revco/Black Stallion 750's and like them. I notice quite a few guys use the 850's. I'll try those next. Personal preference though. Gotta try them on

the best welding gloves are the one's i get from the tool crib at work. eliott and black stallion at the moment. i get about 2-3 months out of a pair but also use them for unloading steel delivery's and general shop work. another great glove was made by the rabin glove co called white chief but can't find them anywhere.

Tillman 650 for me, great dexterity for the protection. Think I paid about 35 for my last pair tho, so a little steep

Re: What are the best stick welding gloves you can buy?

Mostly I like Tillmans but I like the Revco (Black Stallion) 850's for a heavy stick glove. For lighter stick welding I usually wear a heavy MIG glove like the Tillman 48.

I scored a Tillman 1266 lefty from the discount bin @ Air gas with 2 of the snap on heat shields.

Since it has the shield on it its a bit stiffer but I <3 it. Glove itself is a heavy duty glove to start with.

Re: What are the best stick welding gloves you can buy?

I'm weird....I hold my stinger inside unknown thick gloves and wear thinner glove on free hand....in my stick glove, I wad my fingers in a fist with no fingers in glove fingers and only my thumb goes in thumb finger hole..I grip stinger tween my gloved thumb and wadded up fist....prolly looks goofy, but works for me real good especially when electrode gets stuby..I just make a fist with thumb sticking out and shove it in glove and grip stinger.

I'm left handed and got maybe ten pairs gloves....all the left handed gloves are scorched bad...willing to trade for just shipping with right handed welders with same goofy grip.

Honestly. My Tillmans did NOT hold up well. I've gone threw 3 pairs in 3 months. Granted I was in welding school. So we were doing a lot of welding and grinding. Like 40 hours a week

Hate to tell you ... but 40 hours a week is not a lot ... thats bank hours!

I run Tillman 24CLs for everything ... i wear them out in a few months but i like a thin glove for the feel and i run a heat shield on my left hand. On a rare occasion i will use Miller HD mig / Stick gloves.

go to your LWS and find the right size ... some gloves (like my 24CLs) shrink / swell with heat or cold or moisture so it may take some time to find exactly what you like.

any Elkskin glove is gonna be the best, Tillman 750 and the Revco 750 are the same except Revco's are Nomex-Lined which iv heard gives a noticeable difference when under heat

Need to find a store to find the right size as they all Vary.
    Got A Few Welders....
