    2016 PowerTIG 250EX AC/DC Pulse TIG/Stick Welder

This years 250EX is the best one yet, thanks to the introduction of digital control. This new development in the 250EX represents the culmination of a 3 year long effort to develop a plug and play modular design that reduces circuit complexity and improves reilability and serviceability. The 250EX still retains all the basic specs and analog adjustment features of the previous model, but internally you'll see a significant difference.

Do you have a link to the specs on this welder? What's the duty cycle?

Duty cycle is 60% at 250 amps in TIG mode.

The specs are on our website. Should be basically unchanged from last year, with possibly the exception of a lower input amp requirement in 1 and 3 phase operation. We are in the process of updating the site itself, so it may seem a little screwy the next few days. Right now it is showing down or I'd post a link to it.

If you have any questions about particular specs, let me know and I'll post them right here.

The 250EX has the same basic specs as the old one....The 250EX picture is out of date, but basics specs are the same. Only minor difference in exterior appearance and no performance spec difference.

    Re: 2016 PowerTIG 250EX AC/DC Pulse TIG/Stick Welder

been trying to figure out the differences between the 250ex and 255ext. i saw whats below this in a thread by accident after searching without results.
i was ready to order the new 2016 250ex this week and now im undecided ..

the EXT models are mostly digital - have Solid State HF start - and dual voltage-

    i will NEVER stick weld-
i always have 220 available- so dual voltage is never needed-

mostly going to be used for roll cages. stainless exhaust- aluminum intake tubing/radiator tabs .

the more i have looked now i dont know if i should get an EXT model?

comes down to the HF start differences , advanced AC pulse , adjustable wave forms -- will those benefit my use?

    ___________

We've answered this question here a few times, but no worries, I'll be glad to highlight it again. First, it isn't 1k more. On average about 700-750 more...

    1) Lower operating amperage down to 2-3 amps...more stable starts.
    3) Adjustable wave forms. 4 of them in fact instead of just one. This is great for improving results on aluminum.
    4) Additional stick welding adjustment capability, with 6010 setting. The 250EX doesn't do this, and a great number of our customers need this as they use them for pipe or other applications where a combination of TIG and stick is required.
    5) More precise adjustment capability with digital encoders instead of potentiometers.
    6) Capacity to store up to 9 different programs.
    7) Advanced AC pulse...increases capability of the machine when welding on AC not only on thin metal but can increase capacity on thick aluminum by 30% or more.
    8) Dual Voltage capability, with 150 amps on 120V and 255 amps on 240V.
    9) Quieter 4 fan design.

    Re: 2016 PowerTIG 250EX AC/DC Pulse TIG/Stick Welder

Both the 250EX and the 255EXT are digital as far as the control. The 255ext has a lot more going for it in the way of options for welding aluminum, with the adjustable wave form (4 of them), AC advanced pulse and greater range of adjustability and better starting at low amps. Control is more precise too as you can know exactly where you are on your settings. The 250EX doesn't have this feature. Additionally the 255EXT allows you to save your favorite setups.

Starting now, the 255ext and the 250EX have similar start types, but both will have an improved point type start with digital control over the starting.

Wave form control can improve a lot of things when it comes down to control of the arc and bead profiles on aluminum. Advanced AC pulse increases the capability to weld thicker materials. Not only that it will give you more control on thinner metal, with an improved bead profile.
