New: 2016 PowerPlasma 50S 120/240V dual voltage Plasma Cutter (50 Amp IGBT)

The PowerPlasma 50S represents a complete redesign of the PowerPlasma 50 unit of the past few years. This new model features improved cut capacity and improved pilot arc operation with a tip saver feature which helps to extend consumable life. The unit now uses the more durable i PT60 plasma torch, which is a commonly used torch across many brands. We've selected the iPT 60 torch because the new torch offers better cut capacity (severance @ nearly 1") with cleaner cut results during testing. The torch also has improved consumable life and reduces start delays associated with some blow-back designs of previous models. This unit also features a CNC port for light CNC use. CNC torches are also available for this model. The 50 amp PowerPlasma 50S will operate on either 240V or 120V as well, with reduced output while operating on 120V.

Yes, If you go to our site and look under the consumables, select plasma cutters, the PT/ipt 60 consumables are listed.

The PT or iPT 40 consumables fit as well, and are available from different suppliers, only difference is size of orifice. HTP offers them as well as plasmadyn. We are stocking the 50-60 amp ones in abundance. http://www.everlastgenerators.com/ca...ma-consumables

Re: New: 2016 PowerPlasma 50S 120/240V dual voltage Plasma Cutter (50 Amp IGBT)

I ordered a powerplasma 50 through HomeDepot. Was not sure what I would receive as it is still referencing the older PM50. I can confirm that I did receive the PowerPlasma 50S. It came with a PT-60 torch and five extra consumables. The tips had a 1.2mm orifice. The tip in the torch (pretty much wiped out for testing) had a 1.1mm orifice. I picked up a set of electrodes and tips from harbor freight and the electrodes look identical. The tip are .9mm however. This make sense since the HF unit is only 40Amps.

I think it is going to be interesting playing with the different tips, airflow, and amp combinations.

Now for something real important. How about a manual for the 50S? Not one to be found.

It's online on our manuals page on our website. For some reason it was not showing up, but I think it is now. Try it again. Clear cache if needed.
But here is direct link if you don't see it.

I too bought mine at Home Depot, bought it there, because, they offer a 90 days return policy, and if i find its not working well, back it goes..

When i saw that it had shipped, i figured ibwoukd call everlast, and ask which model, i was shipped, sure enough, i was sent the 50S, which i was very happy to see. .

Thanks for the link. That's what I needed.

To be honest I would have purchased the 80s if they had been available through HomeDepot. It show out of stock on line. Any idea when these will be available through home depot as I need one of these for research of my books.

Correct me if I am wrong:

For the PT-40/60 any tip 40 amps or under can be used as a drag tip (contact cutting as labeled)......... At least according to the diagrams/part numbers I have seen.

Plasmadyn has some dedicated extended drag tips:http://www.ebay.com/itm/20pc-PT-60-P...YAAOSwEppUTZvi

We suggest under 30 amps, but the tips you posted have the stand off for drag built in.

Got a set of the drag tips and electrodes linked above. Not having much luck with them. On very thin aluminum they work ok. On steel I find that the tip welds its self to the stock slightly and sticks. This makes them very difficult to work with. I just get the impression these are just a kludged version of a real drag tip system.

No, but they are designed for use under 30 amps. These type tips have been around a while.

I tried 40 Amps and no go. At 30 Amps still a little sticky on clean steel. Well I have 10 sets so I have a few to experiment with.

I just ordered the above mentioned tips, I plan on using them on 1/4 inch steel plate.

Any suggestions on amps setting, for 1/4 inch, how about psi, would 60 psi, be fine..

    Thanks Eric

Don't lower psi if you have the correct tips. Doesn't make sense. My rule of thumb is this: 20 amps for the 1st 1/8", 10 amps for every 1/8" over that.

As some of you guys might know, i am new to plasma cuttters, so i was wondering, i have the PT 60 torch, which came with my Everlast 50 S, will all parts that state they are for PT 60, fit the Everlast PT 60 torch, i guess what i am asking is, is the PT 60 a universal torch..

I was thinking of trying out a Retaining/Ceramic End Cap, heres the link, of the item

I would think so. This is something new I think. It makes it look more like the S75, but the cup itself is pretty durable, the original one that is.

I just spoke to Richard over at plasmadynusa, who you recommended, and he said they are much better then the stock units that come from Everlast, he did say, the only disadvantage is, if you drop the torch, the ceramic ring, will break, very easily..

I am gonna order up one, plus extra ceramic rings..

He also suggested watching the swirl ring, he said if that takes a dump, it will destroy the entire torch, justvwhat to lookout for, i forgot to ask..

    But he was very helpful

I opened up my 50S tonight, I never realized the amount of electronics that are involved with the working of a plasma cutter..

Always buy top quilaty swirl rings like the Trafimet PE0106, stay away from the copys or you may damage your torch.

Here is a swirl ring that starting to burn from using S45 consumables on a PT40 torch. The plunger on the PT style torch's only move a little. The S45 plunger moves twice as far as the PT this will cause the pilot arc to try and find ground jumping to the torch body through the swirl ring.

Re: New: 2016 PowerPlasma 50S 120/240V dual voltage Plasma Cutter (50 Amp IGBT)

Ok, heres my plan, i want to build a splitter for my 220v outlet, cause when i start to build my bumpers, i will be using both my Everlast 50S plasma cutter, and my Hobart 190 Mig, during the build, but, NOT at the same time..

I hate the idea of cutting some parts, unplugging the cutter, and plugging in the welder, so i figured i would build a splitter.

Now to my question, would anyone know, what the amp/power requirement be, for the plasma cutting, when ON, but not being used..

I am thinking it can't be much, cause there is no demand on the cutter..

Basically, i would like to keep both items ON, and go back and forth between them, but never at the same time.

Btw, i am running a 50 amp breaker, wired with 6 gauge wire..

    Thanks
