Best repair kit for Ford V10 sparkplug threads.

Well, it finally happened, at 2,20k my 2000 F-250 popped a plug. Probably time to do all 10 holes. I see all kinds of repair kits online, anybody here have any experience with these? I'm leaning toward the Time-sert kit, but at 430 bux... wow.

I have used the Dorman kit for individual plugs. Done it 4 times on 2 vehicles. 2 times was because I did not tap fully into the engine. Yay ford. Though 2 repairs were on the same plug/ my install error. Tap/adapter must seat fully into the plug cave. You might have to modify a socket as its diameter might be too large for the plug cave.

If you can access the plugs the it will be a 15 min job. Otherwise, it depends on how much time you waste cussing.

Whatever the brand O'Reilly Auto sells has worked for me. Reams and taps in single operation.

i use these. the inserts themselves are expensive, but ive got vehicles with over 20k miles on them and still going, while ive seen most other types fail under 500 miles.

there are a few other brands that sell the same tool also.

eta, this is the exact one ive been using. done about 6-7 over the last 2 years without a problem

The issues I had were caused by my install practice. By not fully threading the tap/adapter into the cylinder I got stray arcing and damage to the adapter.. When threaded properly the kit works well. I have more than 20k on them on each repair with no issues.

I have the timesert kit for mine. Worked great. A little pricey but I have done one other truck and it almost paid for itself.

Although I have not used their spark plug kits, I have used other Timesert products and they are the bomb. If your truck is otherwise in good shape and is a keeper I would go for the best.

This truck is my personal pet, F-250 extended cab, short box on 35" tires.
A local shop with quite a bit of Triton experience that uses the Time Sert system will do the job for $100 per hole, she goes in next Tuesday for all 10. For the price I'm not going to experiment on mine. I hate working on my stuff that isn't out producing, and some of that gets sent out.

yep I hear you, they are great trucks. I've got a 2002 4X4 F-350 crew although it's the diesel. I love that truck and she gets nothing but the best. Still way cheaper than a new one.

I love the cab, I'm a long legged critter and it's the most comfortable one for me. If I had the bucks it would have a 12 valve Cummins and an Allison trans. But at less than 10K miles a year at 14 MPG... I'll keep it as is.
