A grinder and a paint brush is a quick way to owning a gong cylinder.

If you own the bottle, you can pay 10$ per year and then swap for a full one rather than returning once yours actual bottle has been filled. They also said they no longer lease bottles since they had a lot of them that never got returned but they do rental instead, with a deposit of the full cylinder price.
The main thing preventing the average guy from opening a rental business is operating capital. This sounds like a slick way of not having to front money for buying cylinders and operating on customer's money

Sounds like a way of making customers “buy” the bottle, and not giving them the right of owning it. Sure you can return the cylinder and get refunded the “deposit” but the entire time you’re using it, your out the money. You might as well buy your own bottle at that point, what’s the point of renting if I’ve already paid the full price for something? Sounds back-asswords to me, pay the full price for something AND pay rent on it? LOL

Oh, and not only have you paid full price for the bottle, and are paying rent on it, but you’re also handcuffed to that gas supplier because it’s branded to them! I’d tell them to take a hike!

“Sir would you like to rent this 250k House? We just need a deposit of 250k, and you can move right in and start paying rent!l

Re: Rent on an Owned Bottle?

Most of this sounds pretty silly to me, I've been with Norco since 1988. My account shows no lease cylinders, Their policy is if you show no leasers on your account, they are your cylinders whether their name is on the ring or not. I have no problem getting blank ring cylinders if I am going in a direction that they don't cover. I once got another suppliers cylinder mixed in with mine... No problem, they did the swap out With Oxarc. Happens more than you think.

Just talk to them and see, Ranting wont do much good.

Re: Rent on an Owned Bottle?

I went to NORCO today and told them I received a rent bill on a bottle I purchased. First thing out of his mouth, "You must have bought it near the end of the month". I guess this isn't the first time this has happened.

They copied my receipt and emailed it to their accounting office. They said that I do in fact own the bottle. I mixed two digits on the price. The bottle price was $315, not $351. They said if I get billed rent again next month to just call them.

For the person who said it's a small bottle, an S cylinder is 154 scf, not the biggest bottle made, but not small.

ALWAYS KEEP RECEIPTS FOR PURCHASED BOTTLES!

On the way out the door, "Can we sell you anything else while you are here?"

I wrote this yesterday: but did not post - I fully expected you
    would follow up -
with resolution - and indeed you did ^ ^ ^

You are new to the WW . . . so a little background -

Bottle ownership/rental: is such a variable, and reoccurring
issue - I wish I could take it to 'Vegas'.

I have been on the WW for eight years, and have learned:
not be surprised by the problems, the Major OA Players,
    mostly in Metro-Areas, have not resolved . . .

    Typically . . .

They are: dealer sale/rental confusion, private sales [owned or
    stolen
    - to naive buyers], legitimate seller to legitimate buyers,
and possibly the worst - dealer to dealer - non-reciprocity.

This lack dealer cooperation is almost conspiratorial, and verges
    on the Mann Act.

    http://www.google.com/search?q=mann+...10.peistHRwcFs

    Now - it is Norco's turn on the spit . . .

I began OA welding in '69 - with gas from Norco - A Clinton fired
    'Mini-Chopper' -
built from 1/2" black plumbing pipe.

    Purchased a Lincoln: 300/300 TIG in '77, a WeldanPower 225, in '80,
and about three dozen much/more/major machine purchased since.

I have down-sized [aged], but still have three active-pairs of OA.

Approaching 50 years of business with Norco - I have never had a
bottle ownership issue. All S-cylinders, and smaller are considered
owned, and are exchanged without question - regardless of ring -
unless they were - way way out of region.

This: is a deep business secret - the Inter-Mountain NW is [was] a
    genteel neighborhood - with only three+ [large] weld suppliers . . .

All would accept anyone's [S & less] bottles, and exchange bottles
[3 or 4 times a year] to maintain corporate 'Ring' identity.

I pity those that have to deal with the majors-bottle-suppliers, that
treat their clientele, as if they were in a biker bar . . .

Re: Rent on an Owned Bottle?

I just bought a argon/co2 from cyberweld. Do they charge rent or do I own it ( I have not received it yet)

Edit: this is from their site

Do these tanks have a distributors name on the neck ring? If so do they come with a bill of sale or other certificate of title? My local supplier won't fill cylinders from other distributors without the above paperwork.

The Cyl Tec Inert Gas Cylinder - 80 Cubic Foot and all of the cylinder sizes we offer on our site are considered Customer Owned Cylinder sizes. The Neck rings are blank and do not have our name on them.If you purchase a cylinder from us that is filled with gas it will have our label on it which has our name and the type of gas that is in the cylinder. When you purchase a cylinder you will receive a receipt/packing slip. This slip will act as proof of sale and certificate of ownership.

So it sounds like I own it but I might have trouble getting it filled

You own it. Also less than 125 CF (100, 80,60,40,20) and 150CF are generally considered customer owned as those are not rental sizes

Good call... they are a local business with just 3 stores with no obvious ties to a major player, although I would bet that is where they get their gas.
