Is it bad its the one tied to fine adjust.
I undid band and cleaned the rust still no go.
Is spot where its coroded able to cause it to not work.

Would this cause the need for a reflash?

I just about cant work on the thing with most everything agaist cab of tge truck.
Visually it looks like s1 and s2 still have all theyre cables attached.

I guess its gona have to come off the truck grrrr.

    Thanks alot everyone.

    That part is a resistor # 030060 , 375 watt 20 ohm, At miller4less is $51.83

Look on miller website with your serial#

    https://www.millerwelds.com/files/ow.../O450L_MIL.pdf

Test it, look on internet on how to test

You are awesome. I had never head of miller4less

Im getting 12ohm reading through the 20ohm resistor. I thought it would be broken but its not

Local norco has a 50ohm resistor what would that do in place of the 20. Id also assume its only 225 or 250watt.

Im getting a reading of 12 but dont know what that means meter is on resistance my first that to was it was,12volts.

Are you testing it 'in circuit' or is the part disconnected?

How bout a pic of the meter....

So it is has 12 ohms and does have any where from 75- 180volts in it. It is nroken at ate out spot. I moved the strap inside the broken spot.

I think its just not doing what it does 8m not sure if it has anything to do with it igciting? Assuming it must.

Since it is bad ill replace it. I can with it on the truck

I did see each sqiggle on corncob is worth about .5 ohms its 12 where fine adjust band is.

Thanks for the info between my gibberish and not understanding electricity im sure im a joy to help.

    Evan:

I hope you don't mind if I piggyback on your thread.

My Big 40 actually has two of these. The one you show up by the fuel tank and another mounted down on the lifting frame. The one on the frame has a rusted band clamp and no wire there. Based on what I see in the schematic, the wire 51 at the bottom should actually be attached to the band. How to go about adjusting these variable resistors? They seem to adjust some of the windings in the generator. Am I looking for a certain voltage into the windings or a certain output on the weld terminals?

If I remember correctly the one by the control panel is for auxiliary output and the one on the lift frame is for welding voltage

That's Sparkie, that helps make sense of it. After you mentioned one being for aux power and one being weld power, and went back and looked at the schematic:

The resistor I am looking at has wires 51 and 90 connected to it. In the schematic #51 is in the winding circuit without R1 (fine adjust control). I assume that makes it the aux power resistor. The one between fuel tank and control panel must then be weld resistor. When I have everything up and running I will move #51 to a new band clamp and then adjust to get correct output voltage.

Thanks for the help. I have parts scheduled in today, tomorrow, and Thursday this week. Hopefully all is running by end of the week.
