Those welders are junk! I wouldn’t own one! Well maybe 3.

Probly payed over scrap, id assume telling us the amount of caah exchanged would make it appear to me to not be as much of a good deal so that infos been left out, lol

Nice piece and 400 is a good deal, could be parted out for more if all was bad. But lets not go there, good luck and get it up and burning wire.

Re: One more not going to scrap

I ran a compression test , all cyl between 95 and 100 , I'm happy with that . The mag seems to fire when I start to turn it over then looses spark after a couple revolutions . Guess I will learn about mags next . lol

Re: One more not going to scrap

I started a new job so I haven't had much time to work on the welder , Mag timing marks seem off . when I line them up the slot in the gear is on a angle not horizontal . Guess there is more digging to do .

Re: One more not going to scrap

100 # of compression seems way low to me, but then I have never run a compression check on one of those engines. What does the book say it should be?

Re: One more not going to scrap

I'd consider 95-100# getting to be on the low side. I like to see a "seasoned" engine around 115# up.

The company where I work sells lots of old welders. We try to keep them out of landfills, too.

Re: One more not going to scrap

You could always try a.different compression guage. The guages from HF and other chinesium junk ones tend to run low IME. 5# differential isn't too bad considering it may be low. Do you guys ever try running an engine tuner like OMC engine tune to free partially stuck rings? I am a marine mechanic by trade, just throwing this out there

I have to get a few things sorted out , get it to run and see what happens , if its low I'll pull the head , might be a valve job

Re: One more not going to scrap

As a reference I just tested a "well seasoned" 1979 SA200 that had not run in over a year
It ran 150-155# compression on all cylinders
Test was run cold after oiling the cylinders

Re: One more not going to scrap

Ok , If you oiled the cylinders you eliminated the leakage around the rings .
