    New welding table question

Picked up this metal table for $35,I plan on using it as a weld table/work bench.my question is its been painted so should I clean the top off and remove all the paint or just leave it?As you can see its chipped and already has some bare metal showing.

Run a flap disc over the top to ensure a good ground all over. Then a very light coat of oil will prevent rust.

I occasionally run a disc on mine to clean up any rust and BB’s.

Paint on the legs is fine.

Thats what i pretty much figured I should do,but i wanted to verify with the experts. I say for $35 I didn't do to bad. Heck i could probably turn around and sell it for a couple hundred.

Paint on the legs may not be OK if you plan on clamping your ground clamp there. Wherever you plan on doing that, make sure you get the paint off. Not the whole leg, just the area where you want to put the clamp.

Looks nice...how flat and how thick is the top, just out of curiosity. I use Break Free CLP on my table top and my guns. keeps rust away pretty well.

To be honest i never measured the thickness. If i had to guess maybe 3/8 thickness.

Good point about the paint on the legs. I would drill a hole in the legs or frame and put a 3/8” bolt with jam nut outside and lock nut inside. Then use that for a ground point. That’s how my table is.

Good score on the table! You couldn’t build it for twice that.

Thanks!when i saw it on facebook marketplace I knew I had to jump on it. I hit the whole table with a wire wheel, then the top with a flapper wheel and one part of the frame for a ground.also mounted a vise on one corner.
