    The best 6 x 48 belt ?

Picked up an old (1987) Grizzly sander...

it's a wood model and turns slower than the metal beasts... but the price was right...

Maybe I can get a bigger motor pully to get some more steam if needed... ?

    Anyway,
Whats the best brand of belt?

I figure maybe a 60 grit for steel?

I’ve been getting good results from Klingspor. Made in Germany.

60 grit works well for me.

I get the best results from the ones that are still glued together & recommend buying them in large quantity so the glue can let go while unused belts are being stored.

I too use Klingspor. One suggestion - the shelf life of belts is around one year (but they typically last longer), so it’s a good idea not to buy too many at once.

    I like a mix of 24, 36 and 60 grit.

This prob doesn’t help you, John but here in Western Canada KMS Tools carries them.

I used to get them off the tool truck that called on the farm, but we’ve both long retired!

    Those look good quality!

I think I am going to try the regular ceramic...

I don’t think this machine has the sack for a bora ceramic ...

If you don't have a klingspor rep, they do sell them here.

Their sales rep stops by my shop monthly, so it's easy for me....

If not then online at the Woodworking shop.

What would that translate to in feet per minute?

What size was the original motor? how many RPM's stock?

Any problems with the bearings? ... spinning faster?

I might throw a bigger motor on mine If I find one cheap.... but for now I ordered a bigger motor sprocket... should double the belt speed.

I like those link belts... got one of those too.

If you use the orange Norton "Blaze" ceramic belts, its doubtful you'll ever use anything else again.

I see you have a dust collector on that kalamazoo...
    so maybe you don't notice...

But I am getting a good amount of blue grit from the belt.... dust/debris etc.

I am wondering if this is because the belt is new? maybe it calms down after break in?

anyway, It seems to work great but I think I will be wearing a mask when using it.... just for good measure..

I also am putting locking castors on it so I can roll it out to some fresh air... when possible.

Did not put disc back on HF. Have dedicated 8 inch, 3,300 rpm disc sander for this.

Original HF motor was 3/4 hp, 1,700 rpm, not much oopmh, even with different
pulley arraignment. New 3 hp motor, 3,300 rpm.

several years of use, still working good

Not sure what to say, John. I just tried mine with the vac off and it’s okay. Belt is fairly new still.
