    Miller big 40

    ser#HE 765270. Any major complaints on this model? Approx age? Want to use for general farm upkeep. Thanks

    It was manufactured after July in 1974. I don’t know that much about them. They are a alternator type machine that produces AC power that is rectified to DC. That makes them totally different than a pure DC generator welder such as a SA200. I’m sure it has a F163 Continental engine like the SA200 of that age

    i have seen a few of them that stop welding all of a sudden but i never found out the reason

    Big 40 + farm
    Always check for mouse nest before starting machine.
    Plug incoming air to carb and breather along with exhaust when stored

    Electrically it ain't a whole lot different from the alternator on your car. 3 phase alternator and a 3 phase rectifier. Simple & strong machine.
