Removing stern, cutting out lazzarette, fuel tanks etc... to the aft fish hold bulkhead. Bow cut back to the engine room bulkhead. We removed about 10,000 lbs of concrete in the bow and lazzarette. Pre fabricated bow to be installed next... For timeline purposes, the torch was first lit on 08/20/2018. All the work performed by three incredible craftsmen

When I look at something like this I first think WOW! That's some kinda special work. Then I wonder if it wouldn't be almost the same $ to just build a new one?

Very well planned process, the boat was 3D laser measured so the naval architect had a perfect model to build around, we have 4 modules that were designed and pre cut, labeled and marked.

Im sure you have though of everything [8^)] but don't forget to install a clean-out in your water tank, I just had to clean mine out once again after having installed 4 hatches to get in there...

Thanks for sharing the project, Beaver! Keep the pics coming.

OK, just out of curiosity, I assume you have to do some sort of weight/balance/stability certification after such a major rebuild. Kind of similar to what we have to do on aircraft whenever we make an airframe modification. Who has authority? Coast Guard or some other agency. Do you maintain a separate ships log for maintenance and repairs?

The coast guard requires a new survey and a stability test, both performed by private parties. We have weighed all of the steel and concrete and noted where it came off the boat for the naval architect. And yes we have maintenance log ever since we’ve had the boat

Before side plating, new stainless fuel piping in. After plating, using long sheets very few weld seams. Time to start welding out while waiting for stern pieces to arrive

Here's what we are waiting for from the cutter, stern section, built in fuel tanks, large lazzarette. This is a large piece, it will be built onsite and then installed as one module. it is 24ft wide x 15ft long

Re: Commercial Fishing Vessel- Sponson & Lengthen

Will the rudder and steering gear be located in this new rear compartment or fitted back where it was originally? Hard to tell from the pix if that area was removed or not. I see the rudder is missing, but figured it may have just been removed to make the work easier. How much extra fuel capacity will this add to the boat?

Re: Commercial Fishing Vessel- Sponson & Lengthen

Rudder removed but will go back in same spot, we completely removed all of the stern to the back fishhold, steering will be in same place before but overall stern will be 2ft longer, our fuel capacity will go from 2500 ish to 6500- six tanks, new fuel transfer system which we didn’t have before so we can trim the boat with various loads and weather

Re: Commercial Fishing Vessel- Sponson & Lengthen

So you're going to end up with about 150% increase in fuel capacity and be able to go out farther or stay out longer without the fuel and freshwater restrictions you had before. The next limiting factor to remaining out on the fishing grounds will be the amount of food for the crew that can be taken along.
