The new switch I put in is a little to deep for the old cover. The new one will need to be cut down a little.

Are you going to insulate the inside of it? It could short to a solenoid if something smacks it hard enough.

I think all the connections are insulated. Haven't looked at it for a while. winch is in a box.

Saw the old cover and just made a taller one.

OK, I've seen a lot of them where the lugs on the solenoids are just lug connections with no insulation

I had several 8274 Warn Winches on pickups. None had insulated connections from new. I can see wanting to fashion a metal cover as the plastic originals never held up well. Heat, vibration, sun exposure, etc. always wore on them.

That's why I asked about insulating it. I'm all for building a more durable cover but I've seen a lot of them being replaced because they got smashed. All you need is for a metal one to get smashed and short across the lugs and now you've got a great little fire starter bolted to the front of the truck and nothing you can do about it but watch it burn.
